Overhoning w/ a coticule (w/ lather!)

Okay, so we all know it's just about impossible to overhone on a coticule normally--I once tried just for fun--400 strokes later w/ plain water &* no wire edge. But recently, I read something about it being possible if lather was used on the stone.

I tried this a few times, but soon made a balsa CrO paddle & decided the lather thing was not worth it, what with the chrome being finer & all. Now, I'm almost tempted to see what happens, just for fun, without a chrome follow-up.

Anybody else tried this & if so, what were your results?

I haven't tried it. But I honestly don't see how lather could make the difference.
I often hone with a drop of dishwashing detergent added to the honing water.
Of course, that's no lather, but I never encountered overhoning issues.

I have read of honing for 1000 strokes without overhoning.

I have used lather for at least a thousand laps without overhoning on an already good edge.

If you use the *right* amount of pressure - I think you may be able to get the overhoning to work with a Belgian. You would have to experiment :)
