Moving this out of 'soap' and into the ebay forum.
What's so special about it?
It's made in Italy...or was made...no longer in production. Of course everyone wants what you can't get !!! Don't think its in the Martin de Candre class ....but right up there....so Iam told..
Interesting, never heard of it, IMHO Martin de Candre is pretty hard to beat.
Is great soap,I have a kilo left but it really is not that much diff than Cella
Gentlemen, P160 is a relative of Cella, so to speak, but discontinued. It is a good soft soap, but I would not do cartwheels over it. The fragrance is a sweet almond marzipan and pleasant. It comes in two variations: Tipo Morbido and Tipo Duro. As for the one on eBay, if I were you, I'd spend the money on Martin de Candre.
is this the soap that was a duplicate of the old razorock XXX ?
I do not completely agree on this. The most near substitute for P.160 is, in my opinion, Cella. Razorock classic is a good soap, of course, but P.160 was a truly different story.
These are the INCIs of both soap for you to compare:
Razorock Classic Shave Soap
Stearic Acid, Tallow, Water, Cocos Nucifera, Potassium Hydroxide, Sodium Hydroxide, Fragrance (Sweet Almond), Potassium Carbonate
P.160 tipo morbido (soft type)
Aqua, Stearic Acid, Palmitic Acid, Tallow, Cocos Nucifera, Potassium Hydroxide, Parfum, Potassium Carbonate, Benzyl Alcohol, Tetrasodium EDTA
P.160 is an incredibly good shaving cream, in my opinion, the very best I have ever tried in my life. I still have a tiny chunk of it which I am scrupulously trying to keep as long as I can.
As for the listing on eBay, I guess this is however crazy. The current bid of USD 83,88 is truly crazy. Okay, this soap is not in production anymore, they stopped production around 6-7 years ago and, as P.160 is a tallow based soap, a substance which can easily go rancid in case it is not properly kept, who knows how this soap has been kept so far and in what conditions it is now?
You can get a very good shaving soap, but I doubt this soap has been kept in a fridge in order to prevent tallow oxidation. You can tell this by the color: fresh P.160 was white in color and when it started to go rancid - that is, tallow going rancid - it got a yellowish color, like rancid lard. And also the smell changed quite a lot, having very evident nuances of rancid lard.
I am however curious to see at what price it is going to be sold this 780 grams of P.160! :)
Why wait for the auction when you can buy some right here.
Whats the shelf life on this stuff?
