I bid on a razor that seemed to be right in my wheelhouse price wise.
i normally lose out quickly to other bids, so I wondered why I was still winning after a couple of days.
Fast Forward to today when I looked closely at the ad; shipping from Canada is going to cost $80!!!!!???!!!
for the first time in my life, I hope I don't win!
What's the deal on shipping prices from Canada to the US????

That's ridiculous! I get tea from a company in Canada every month posted to here in the UK total cost $21. Some people bump the postage costs on eBay to make a killing. If it were me I'd withdraw my bid.
If you've got time left, maybe you can ask for a different, cheaper shipping method? Worldwide bubble envelop postage from the Netherlands is around €4.
Highway robbery. Cancel the sale.

If I remember correctly, the one time I sent a razor to the USA it cost less than $10, expedited, insured. You have a perfectly valid reason to withdraw your bid if you can't negotiate a reasonable shipping cost.
Candian here, it doesn't cost that much to ship from here. I ship stuff to the US, with tracking for about $16.
Just making the price not matter what it goes for, that's why it's 80

Yea, that is about the size of it alright. There are plenty of items with exorbitant shipping cost on that popular site. If you can cancel your bid without negative consequences to yourself I would do that.Quote:

I used to have a friend who sold on eBay, and that is what be told me.
You could withdraw, ask for a more realistic postage cost, or report the seller if this is still the case.
Contact the seller immediately. He probably made a mistake. If he didn't, his reply will be ammunition for a no-sale complaint to ebay. Nevertheless, as with all auction purchases, caveat emptor.

That is rediculous. I sent a razor to Canada and it was less than $10.
At some point last year I started noticing ridiculous shipping costs listed on ebay for items coming from the USA into Canada. I contacted a couple of sellers who explained that the estimate was the result of a wonky automatic calculation. Can't recall whether it was ebay or USPS that was responsible for the error. I wonder if this is something similar? As has been suggested, contacting the seller may quickly resolve the issue. And if it doesn't then that is clearly an insane markup on actual shipping costs.

I contacted the seller and he 'said' he was unaware of the high shipping cost.
He was using a version of FedEx. When I suggested he look into a more reasonable cost solution his shipping estimate would come down and the bidding activity would go up, he said he would do just that. I certainly hope so!

The ad now has the price for shipping adjusted to $15.

I know for awhile people would charge high shipping prices and state that in the description. They did that to get around the selling price fees from Ebay, but since Ebay changed the way they charge it doesn't pay to do it that way anymore.
Sheesh...worse comes to worst on that, change the shipping address to me in Toronto and I'll ship the blade out to you no problem, would be my pleasure, got a post office just up the street!Quote:

www.ebay.com is the US site for ebay, so probably by default the sipping is calculated for US buyers.
But you are still in canada and when you are logged in your account ebay should recognize that and update those to reflect shipping to you.
I haven;t done it in a long time, but when you placed a bid you were also shown the lowest shipping charge to you before pressing the submit button. The seller can't force you to pay more later, but also you have agreed to pay that much shipping and ebay may not help you if afterwards you claim it is too much.
Or it could be that they ship using a carrier, in which case prices can skyrocket.
Sending stuff to the US via UPS or fedex is expensive
Everybody settle down here. You all know Eboy has this new thing called Global Shipping. It's in response to complaints people don't want to ship things to international buyers.
here's how it works-The seller invokes the service and it appears in the auction. It is only offered to selected countries. The item is shipped by the seller to the Eboy U.S shipping Center (Pitney Bowes run) which prepares the package for international shipping and then it's passed to fedex. If the item is lost once it reaches the shipping center the seller has no liability at all. It's very expensive. Shipping a small item to Europe can cost around $100.
If you ship overseas and worry about tracking and insurance it's the only solution unless you ship very low value items or don't care.
On principle I stay away from any listing promising "Global Shipping" since it involves Fedex. Been dinged once by exorbitant "brokers fees" using a courier service for international shipping, Gun shy for sure.

You're not alone. UPS brokerage fees are completely bonkers, and are the sole reason why I almost always refuse to buy anything internationally that ships via UPS. For example, when The Admiral arrived, they imposed a brokerage fee of over $100. I was able to negotiate that down, but it was the proverbial straw as far as my relationship with UPS goes. That would work but in my case I don't need anything off the bay that badly that I would trouble a friend for. Unless the vendor offers USPS shipping at reasonable cost I just ignore it.Quote:

You can use the bid retraction. Not sure if there is an option for what happened. You can also contact the buyer. They can delete the bid, or tell them that the most you should pay is about $25
