I'm more than pleasantly surprised, I was expecting the usual gray rusty sort of thing but this has 90% of the original mirror finish. I don't know if I should even try to improve it. :)
Looks great from here. Hone up and shave away!
Ya done good. It is really hard to tell from the first photo what the condition might be mostly due to that horrible colour cast. You could download the image and run it through PSE auto colour correct for a better idea next time. A pleasant surprise is always nicer though.

Nice! I just had the opposite happen. I bought a razor that I expected to have a dull finish but what I received was completely BLACK :( After removing the top layer of black oxide, I found that the razor also was not the brand advertised. It does have a blade etch which wasn't able to be seen under the thick oxide layer so maybe not a total wash. Glad to see someone come out ahead in the game of eBay :)

My 1" W&B had dull photos but it was like new when I got it
I've had a couple that worked out awesome. Most are what I expected. I would be most inclined to leave it more or less as is. I have an older razor that is in similar condition that I will eventually just sanitize hone and use. I like it when things are better than expected, even when it happens to someone else. Sometimes the universe smiles.
That's an awesome razor! Makes you wonder why they would use that photo in the first place thought right?
I didn't get it at a steal of a price but I'd guess the deep crisp etching and scale stamps would have commanded a higher price if showcased properly.Quote:

The Ebay gods smiled on you. You always run the risk that the razor you received is different from the one portrayed in the photo(s). Sometimes the difference can be to your detriment. For instance, I won a Filarmonica Especial 13 a while back, and the razor arrived with a 1-2mm vertical crack in the middle of the blade that even the closeup photos (which were not of the best quality) did not show. In your case, it is always nice when the seller fails to properly photograph how nice the razor is. It is certainly possible that there would have been more bidders and the razor would have gone for a higher price if the photo you shared was used instead for the auction. Well photographed razors almost always fetch a premium.
Yes, two weeks ago bid on a W&B For Barbers Use razor, pics were really bad, taken from far enough away that you could really see the blade. Description said the blade was fine, had no damage, scales were in OK condition, no mention of the size or grind of the blade. It looked like it was probably a 7/8.
When it arrived, it was in excellent condition, it was a hollow grind 8/8 FBU spike point!!!!....couldn't believe it, and the price was very low...yes, sometimes the badly photographed listings can pay off, but there's always the risk.
All I can say is that I hope to be so lucky someday!
