A 7 day Heljestrand set for someone with DEEP pockets

Only reason I'm posting this is because, aside from the fact that it is interesting, it may be pulled if someone complains about the tortoise shell. OTOH, the seller doesn't identify the scale material, so he might get by with it, even if someone did complain. Arguably an over priced set, but with the dollar worth a dime in buying power ..... according to my memory, maybe not. Note I've gone to the trouble of posting the seller's photos, some of them, for when the listing is no longer available, making the thread useless. :chapeau

I gotta put that on my watchlist.
If it were MK32 or 33 I would go quite some ways to secure me winning such an auction!

Interesting bunch of razors, though I'm not so much of a swedish fanatic that I'd consider such a tall price for fairly small razors.

And those notches for the thumb, never could stand how that feels when stropping a razor. It feels like someone cut the middle out of a set of steps that you're supposed to walk on.

But that's not what the set is about, I guess. Who is going to buy that set and actually use them on their designated days? That's something I'd do if I could find a nice 6/8 set of vintage solingen razors in the $500 range (I never see them in the wild, though, and such a set would go for more than that on peebay).

This ebay discussion just cost me five bones. There was a 7 day set of kobar razors that appear to be 6/8 or close and all in good or excellent shape.

Just got a certifyd strop in the mail and ordered the tiger razor off of takeshi aoki's page, too.

I was away from this site for a while and did so good until I came back :rant:

Looking at the pics, it appears that the razors might be of different sizes? My understanding is that there are MK 31s in different widths, but I find it surprising that the razors in the 7-day set do not appear identical.

Hone wear ? I noticed that the razor in the lower right, of the photos I posted from the listing, looks larger in width. Camera angle ? IME with 7 day sets over the years, I've seen quite a few, and most have only one or two, if any used out of the set. AFAIK, an MK31 is a 5/8, the MK32 a 6/8 or thereabouts. :thinking: The auction has a bid on it BTW. :beer2:

My pair of MK31's in similar "organic" scales sustain me! Auction will likely get pulled as they are highly illegal to sell via eBay. I'm not telling.

If you consider what razor $200 would buy you, I don't see how these are overpriced. I don't think you can currently get tortoise scales regardless of the price and even ivory scales these days would cost more than $200 just for the scales.
The razors do seem a bit mismatched though.

I have some tortoise heljestrands from mk29 to mk33 and they're rather nice. If I didn't already had more than enough of the 31s I may have gone for this set.

My point wasn't so much that $200 a blade is bad - but $200 a blade with 5 days yet to go is spooky :). I have a feeling that the $200 is just a start.

I have been wrong before though. The bidding might not go up... But I doubt it :).

They must have made him change the description. They pulled a listing I had because it said bone scales. They even called me. I had to remove bone from the listing.

Nope! Very Minimalist here. I do have some that resemble these so I am set.

Looks like the seller didn't wait for the auction to complete either. It's marked as sold and the bid was not canceled, so I suppose he figured out better take the starting price than risk ebay penalizing him especially since they already cancelled it once.

Yeah, as far as ebay is concerned don't tell and they won't ask. Call it 'natural material' instead of ivory or tortoise. The second time around he said they were celluloid, but with no collars on the pins, I'd suspect tortoise.

If you have a bid, and the bidder/seller agree, you can end the auction with an option to call the bidder the winner. Looks like that seller figured a bird in the hand was better than two in bush.

It's as sad in the "pharmaceutical" world. As long as a drug is not listed as illegal, it's legal.

As soon as a drug is legislated as illegal, you'll only have (if you're chemist) to add a carbon, and it's legal again (with a new carbon, it's a "new" drug, and if it's new it's not illegal).

I'll post them up when they arrive.
