Establishing a good relationship with vendors.

Just wanted to share something nice that happened to me over the weekend. I had recently bought a bunch of $25 or less razors off of Etsy for use a honing practice razors at the Seattle meet. It was a mixed bag with some pretty nice examples and some....not so much. :w After receiveing the items I made sure and leave feedback on the transactions and asked that they let me know if they had any other shaving related items in the future. I heard back from one vendor on Etsy who said she had a damaged razor for sale and asked if I would be interested.

While the scales are obviously shot, the blade looks VERY promising! I probably could of gotten it for less, but I offered her $30 (including shipping).

So the moral of the story is to try and cultivate your network. Go to Kinkos and have them print up a batch of business cards with your name, email, and a statement "I like razors and shaving things!" Or something similar. Give them out to antique store employees or your local barber. Shoot someone who runs a website business an email and ask what they have. If you give a few minutes of effort you can really stand out in someones mind as "that one guy show likes the old barber stuff". If they know they can get a sale without having to write up a listing description or have it sit on a shelf for an extended period of time they will be very pleased.

Damaged razor??? LOL....scales may be shot, but that looks like a nice candidate to be raised from the dead!

Unless there is something nasty hiding on the back side it should clean up pretty easy. Seems to be minimal hone wear, nice crisp stamp, and light patina. Crossing my fingers!

Have done this for yrs,Leaving feedback is a great thing and can Garner great deals down the road.
Many times I have repeat buyers from ebay sales (out of the ebay loop) so no 10% fee.

I always leave feedback, and if I'm not going to leave 100% feedback I always contact the seller first to resolve any issues - every time I've done this things have worked out fine.

I can't tell for sure from the pics but that looks like ivory to me.

Maybe you could shorten the scales, clean them up and put them on a shortie razor.


Oh, and yes what kind of person doesn't leave feedback, I've gotten several very tempting offers from sellers after we've completed a transaction.

I sell a few things on Etsy and from the sellers forum and my expereince its usually only 15 to 25% who leave feedback. The feedback rate is MUCH better on ebay, but it is reciprocal for the seller and buyer.... bit of motivation :)

This is interesting,I use the SRP classifieds alot,when I buy an Item, I always leave feedback.
If I sell something and the buyer is 100% satisfied with the Item,very few members leave feedback even if asked to do so.
Have never understood this.

Bill, you need no feed back. Your Brushes are internationally known. I see them posted in the SOTD threads all the time. Good grief I mean how much more appreciation do you need LOL

Geez louise:). Feedback on any venue,IMO is not to show apprecition for the product,that I get in PMs.
Feedback lets people know that the item was shipped quikly,packed properly,and advertised properly with a flawless transaction.
Is all about maintaining reputation,JMO

I feel you, this is important too. Just saying, seeing other people post pictures of your work speaks volumes...

Got the razor in the mail today. Popped the scales and was able to save the washers for reuse. Definite ivory with a petite lead wedge. Will put the scales in the parts drawer for a future project. This is after about 5 minutes with some Blue Magic. Pretty Pleased :)
