yea, and the less we all bid up those NOS razors the cheaper they will be for Lynn to get. Nice try Lynn.
LOL.......I used to buy hundreds from ebay. Now maybe a few a year and they have to be special......I'm thinkin' you call yourself thebigspender for a reason..............hahahahahahahaha. Bid 'em up. I'll just be watchin'. Nice try yourself.
Have fun.

I think that Lynn is right. They won't be cheaper for only Lynn, they will be cheaper for all of us. What does Lynn want with this razor or that. I believe that he has plenty razors and so I know that his comments are directed to benefit the rest of us and not himself. Think about it. :hmmm:
Erhm.. no, they won't.
They will only be cheap as long as noone is buying. Once people start buying again they'll be just as expensive as they are now. Simple economy 101.
Compare it with the stock market. As long as everybody is buying, the price goes up. If everybody sells, the price tumbles down.
Lynn just had the luck that he was one of only a few people buying when everybody else was selling. Because of this he could get bargains that are exceedingly rare nowadays.
The trouble is that too many people suffer RAD. In the past shavers were happy with a couple of razors that served them lifelong. Nowadays people read on SRP or any other razor forum they should have at least tried several brands, top end models etc. This is feeding their RAD.
Kees, now be honest, do you have 1 or 2 razors. NO! You have RAD just like me! And on top of that, you have HAD, just like me! And you have that gorgeous E. & Co. Y/G stone that I covet! THOU SHALL NOT COVET THY NEIGHBOR'S HONE! I believe that this is the 11th commandment! Please pray for me Kees for I have sinned...
Just because I have 11 razors in my rotation, 4 on my personal project bench, 9 on the for sale project bench and 10 that I don't know what to do with, am planning on owning a Williams and a Livi and waiting for a new US razor maker to officially announce himself with a lil' something for me, doesn't mean I have RAD. I just walk around and razors kind of fall in my lap :w
I don't think we'll be seeing the price of razors going down. Some stabilization would be nice......... FYI, tis always been the same......new guys, bidding wars, gots ta has.....and on and on......Heck, we have created a market for the guys in Germany that didn't exist 10 years ago. Tons of guys over there are searching every nook for old unfinished blanks or forgotten about caches of razors.
Lynn
Right on Lynn, guys like Manyware and Germanrazors to name a couple. And razors aren't all! What about hones, yutahey paid $360.00 for a y/g Escher just over a month ago! And Tony sold a beautiful vintage Thueringen hone for over $300.00. And then there's Kees who bought a gorgeous y/g E. & Co., same as Escher, for 36 measley euros, 36!!! Damn Dutchman!!! Lucky dog!!! HAHAHAHAHA :tu
I don't think the prices will go down either, but agree with Lynn that a little stability would be nice. If we started setting limits for ourselves on how much we would pay for a razor, then eventually razors would balance out around those prices. Of course, this only really works in theory. Actually getting hundreds of RAD afflicted men to stop their bidding wars and set restrictions on what they will pay for a razor is pretty unlikely.
Heck, I am guilty my self. I got my Boker Red Injun up to $120.00 because I "had to have it". Since then though, I generally try to not pay much more then $30.00 for a razor, and even then it has to be in pretty good condition to get that high. Still though, if one came along that I really wanted, I doubt I could restrict my self much.

5 Hezekiah 14:37-38 reads "Thus saith the Lord God after sunrise. 'I am the Lord thy God, and this shall be my eleventh commandment. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's razor, nor his hone, his hanging strop, his paddle strop, his badger brush, his silvertip, nor anything that is thy neighbor's. Now go forth, grow whiskers and shave.'"
I don't know about that Hezekiah reference, but it does say, "Though shalt not covet thy neighbors wife." And if you can't covet your neighbors wife, then why would you be able to covet you neighbors razor? I mean, the logic is pretty obvious to me. Am I the only one?
(And I wonder why I'm still single...)
Matt
The books of Hezekiah were found in a remote part of the Holy Land only 15 or so years ago. There is one dedicated to the removal of the beard. Historians agree that this was truly the beginning of shaving shrines and various Acquisition Disorders. The Hebrews, no longer wanting to shave their beards, hid these books deep underground. It is a little known fact that these manuscripts are what inspired Lynn to start SRP.
:w
Once again, Lynn provides inarguable wisdom to the board. The bidding wars and gots ta has cases are out of control. Two Norton 4/8k combo stones sold on the 'bay, used, for about as much as I've seen them brand new.Quote:

In my experience, the razors I've picked up on eBay are sometimes a let-down at $25. I couldn't imagine how I'd feel if I'd paid $60. Sellers know there's been a surge, so they raise their starting prices accordingly. What they don't know are terms like 'hone-wear,' 'warped scales,' etc.
I'm happy that I bought most of my vintage razors before the prices started to climb, but there are still some good buys to be found. Badly described razors, mis-classified razors and outright misspellings can all lead to a nice deal slipping under the radar on Ebay. I just won two nice razors for much less than they normally go for because the seller just called them a "lot of two razors". You just have to work a little harder these days to find the good deals.

To further make the point, check this one that ended today: http://tinyurl.com/2jxr4x
A bargain Thuringen at $112.50. Except that the buyer could have bought it directly from Manufactum ( http://tinyurl.com/2pllno ) for far less, as all studious SRP members should have known.
Because you've already got the hundreds (dare I suggest thousands) that you need.
Here's a question for you ... If you were to use only the razors you have now and rotate them all equally shaving every day for say the next ten years, how many times would each razor see action? 3 times? 4 maybe?
Calling Doctor Coup Chout, RAD specialist. I think we have a textbook case for you. ;)

Probably none. The folks who want a really great edge on their razors are keeping me very busy. I don't even get to watch ebay near as much as I used to nor shave with as many of my favorites as I used to. Thanks for asking though.
Lynn
Finally......someone who drinks more than me on the weekends.......LMAO!!!!
Thanks,
Lynn
I don't think its our group who is responsible for bidding up the price on razors. If you look all over Eboy everything is going up in price. people in general are collectable crazy and as long as thats the case prices will never come down. Just wait until all those knife collectors out there discover straights and see what happens to prices. Personally I have enough razors to where I don't bid much on Eboy these days. There are just a couple DDs I'm interested in. Other than those you guys can have em all!
