Don't you just love it when they take pictures from 2 feet away or then say look at pictures for description.
yes, sometimes sellers dont understand just how much we scrutinize blades to know the real condition! ive been messaging the seller back and forth, just to help educate them.
and i felt bad for posting it here and im now bidding on something i dont really want....... :gaah: curse my impulsiveness!
maybe orville will trade me his new w&b for my ultra rare "wade & butcher and sons!" :p
Looks like it met a dremel in a back alley and the dremel won.
You know it really didn't look so bad. I don't know what it sold for but with a little buffing and polishing and a good honing it probably will turn out pretty good. I have won similar razors of the bay and they did turn out rather good. and after a good honing they shaved quite well. some times bad photos end up a good buy.
If memory serves me correctly, our beloved Wade and Butcher razor company was called Butcher and Son(s) and then became Wade and Butcher after the importer Wade signed an agreement to import them to New York or America in general; I'm not sure which.
hmmmmm. nope, doesnt ring any bells im in listening distance of
any source for the thought? w & s butcher co. was the company name of the butcher bros who partnered with wade who was the importer in new york. i think it was shortly after the brothers began their biz in 1820 that wade partnered and the w & s butcher co used the trademark "wade & butcher" but i dont recall anything like a "& sons" at any time. id love to se info if there is any though
I have about 70 W&B's, lots of different styles and ages, and not one say's, "Wade & Butcher and Son's".....which means the hunt begins!:p
more likely to find an "r wade & son" razor.......... hehehehe, also didnt exist but the wade from wade & butcher was robert who had a son named robert. the sr died in 1825, son joined the w&b biz some years later. robert wade made razors also, the ones weve seen simply marked "r wade" come to mind. less known of this guy than the well documented w&b history, thatd be real cool to find an " r wade & son." prob are none but more likely to exist than W&B&SONS! thatd be a hunt id be interested in!
anyone ever come across a razor marked "w. butcher" ?????? aside from razors i collect tools and have a couple cast steel chisels maked "w. butcher" with the typical b arrow cross logo but ive never seen a razor marked as such.
