Antique CUT Throat Hand Forged Bengall Razor Made IN Sheffield England | eBay
I believe this would be worthy of the "Wall of Shame" thread....
Once upon a time Bruce. ;)
I've asked the seller if there was a Typo Mistake/I'll let you know what I get. :w
Probably not a typo. I see this all the time. I restore a razor to shave ready and charge a reasonable price and get no bid. But some joker comes along with the same razor all broken, asks more than I did and gets it. Makes no sense.
With as much as I look, I have seen it several times. Same razor sold to someone. Shows up again 3 or 4 months later by the same seller. If they don't do it so much as to raise a flag, it can be that the sale is cancelled and fees returned. I think Ebay has access to IP addresses, so a buddy is doing it. Listing fees are chump change. NOT that this is what is going on here, IMO. Misinformed seller, perhaps. Probably did a search on Bengalls! Has many items on and only one razor. Will go down 'til sold, I expect.
Aw hell. E's in Melbourne. Thattle be it.

This is a much better option.
(For you American chaps, the sellers name refers to foot ware)
Never seen such a large Bengall.
Say?.............
That's a nice looking blade! All original?
A fool and his money are soon parted:) It still amazes me what people will try to get for razors on the bay.
I think it would be a fun Social Experiment to set up a few of these type sales and use it as an educational tool... Similar to the group that was running fake-fake email fishing scame that, after the Link was clicked, took the person to an educational page explaining some ins/outs of Razor Pricing.
I've never had the issue with razors that I sold as I just don't ask that much but we once had an Ad for a good condition swingset up locally for FREE and 30 days later still no sale... I changed the Ad to ask $100 and it sold the next day and even after I explained to the buyer my situation and that she was more than welcome to it for no charge she insisted on paying $50. ??!!??!!
I would love to know what drives these results... Maybe competitive bidding but seems unlkely that would be the whole answer.
You get what you pay for seems to be ingrained in people's minds. So they have a problem with free stuff.
But then; you were supposed to give a gratuity to your executioner!?!!?
I recently went back to the scene of a crime. A person wanted an espresso machine I had. The price was to be $200. When I was not happy with the way it was working, I told her only $100. Well, lo and behold, I stopped bye the store yesterday and she wrote me out a check for another hundred and would not take no for the answer. I do not mind, she was happy and I am ahead for something I may want.
You were also to give a gratuity to the boatman on the river Styx to get to Hades.
~Richard
The money to the Executioner was to ensure a "clean" cut. The pennies on your eyes for the ferryman was to pay the toll, and was usually done by your friends or family.
anybody else notice all the fake bids on eBay by sellers? I'm talking about those fake bidders who bids increments of $1, most likely the seller's second account driving up prices.
I find it unlikely for 30+ bids on one item. 10-20 seems more realistic with REAL bidders. Just put a high Buy It Now price instead of throwing fake bids!
Many Others say" Let the Seller be Honest" The breakdown of society concerns me.
While I only 'Dabble' at FleaBay as a Buyer (I've never sold anything at FleaBay) I will UP my bid by only a single Dollar. Sometimes a Dollar and a couple of cents. I see no sense of spending more than I need to so I can purchase an item and not necessarily a razor as I've done so for even a Cooking Pot.
It just makes Good Business 'Cents'.
Comes down to bidding what you will pay. Whether at the beginning of an auction, or at the end. If you lose by a dollar, you were closer than those you lost by ten. JMO
The sniping bids are really annoying. I missed a 13/16 J. Rogers and Sons by one dollar at the last second. Thought I was gonna get it for $40. There were no bids except mine, till the last millisecond.
