Yeah it is peculiar. Your assessment is really the only thing that makes sense. The razor is in surprisingly good shape except for the weird heel.

Most wedges are "near wedges". From what I've read, true wedges aren't that common. If the blade was a true wedge, it would lie completely flat on the hone with the entire face of the blade being worn. I own a couple of wedges and if you look and them closely, you can see a very slight hollow in them from when they were ground. For a near wedge to have started out as a true wedge, it would have to be reground.
That doesn't look any better than 6/8
[ QUOTE=edhewitt;1541765]I don't reckon that is over 6/8 personally, maybe 13/16 tops. I did a quick measure on my phone so probably not 100% but close. Still very cheap though.[/QUOTE]
Ok that one may be closer to 6/8 than 7/8, but the bottom line is that bargains are still out there...even on the Bay!!
Yes, these are a special bunch in the fanboy heaven. I've owned probably eight or nine 8/8+ WB FBU at some point but always sell them since I can usually at least quadruple the investment.
