This really belongs in the Auction Talk section of the forum but in answer to your question, I suppose that someone assumed (hoped) that there might be a few gems among those 25 razors that would make the bid worthwhile.

there may have been a few things in there. I saw a little of this and a little of that but without better pictures or perhaps more time spent examining the pictures it is hard to say. There was a nice set of aluminum scales and over 25 razors. The add did say most were junk but the seller had no idea about razors. Some people will see one maybe and go for the lot no matter what. I have seen single razors with carved aluminum scales go for more than I would pay for them.
I didn't notice anything "special" in there. The aluminum scales looked nice but they and not the detailed type that I would expect to see sell for a lot. You never know with eBay. I've sold items for two or three times what I would value them at. Ive even thrown extras in after the sale because I felt guilty. Some people just have more money then others and don't mind paying more. If you're a multimillionaire that collects aluminum scale, what's a couple hundred bucks?
What's it worth? What's it worth to you? Two different questions.
Those celluloid tortoise scales are gassing pretty badly. If it's like 20 razors and they can be honed, even if you value them all at $10 each you can keep what you want, put some legwork into rough and ready sorts of the rest and get your cash back. Sometimes lots make sense that way. I have bought really costly lots before to get something I could not source, sorted out the rest, resold and actually ended up in the black.
There was obviously a lot more razors than shown in the picture. The listing says 25 straights. The picture shows around 13.
Yeah, and hone almost anything for real with a guarantee and you will get at least 10, more like 15+ ea
I have taken a chance on a couple of lots, it can be worth it if you get just a couple good ones out! I am still working through restoring razors from a lot that I bought several months ago...
