Sterling Unger Bros 9/16. Worth it?

Hi, there is a nice Unger Bros sterling silver vintage razor on eBay. As a newbie I really like the scales on it. As I like to try to clean up my old razors that I buy and restore them and hone up to usable condition I must ask for help on this one. First of all, how much is it worth in your opinion? Second, what has me worried are some dark stains on the blade near the heel. I'm assuming it's rust but it worries me how deep might it be and if it is possible to restore the blade and get it honed. The price point is too steep for just the scales even though I would for sure negotiate the price down. Please let me know what do you guys think. Thank You.

Well first off we do not discuss price on this forum. Stuff is always worth what it sells for but beyond that is a no no.

Silver scales sell for a pretty penny most of the time. If you really want a set then watch and wait. When exploring new things related to straight razors watch and wait is often the best method. I watched some really great deals go past when i was very new at collecting and eBay. The great news is even if you miss a great bargain here or there it is free. I too have been on the look out for silver or carved aluminum scales but haven't found my bargain yet.

You are correct to be concerned about dark spots like that near the edge. it could be nothing or it could be the death of the blade. The rest of that blade is not stellar as there is heavier hone wear at the toe. New York made razors tend to be very good for shaving but don;t tend to sell very high.

The blade is trashed. Go to Fleabay and see what sterling razors have gone for lately.
