I have no problem with people who are up front about it.
It has been my experience that ones with the blade etch are original hollows and those with no blade etch, yet with 'Barber's use' on the tang are (were) wedges, reground or not.
At any rate, this fellow gave a good go, stated that the blade had been restored.... could have got it centered and to scale. JMO.
I just hope the nonsense that has polluted things like vintage guitars doesn't invade the hobby
In essence, a straight razor is pretty simple. We are fortunate to have those here who have seen and handled about everything imaginable. Most in-the-know, know.
I tag this one as being a wedge 'regrind/resto' and reetched as a Hollow Ground in a fashion, judging by the stabilizers (and the etching). How high this one will go is to be seen.
I really think it is a nice razor. If it has not been overheated, it will shave great.
No offence to the seller, but for the money it is going for as it is represented, I will pass.
I had rather have the t-shirt, myself.
With sheffields you really have to be careful about conservation vs restoration. With special stuff, the former is really preferable to me. Modification should only happen if there is damage to a level modification is necessary to restore functionality and even with that you have to have an eye. Go too far on a grand old blade and you may as well buy a modern blade from here (a good idea anyway, but you get my point)...
What does a person suffering from leprosy have to do with an of this nonsense. Lepers are suffering from a disease, not altering straight razors in Romania.
It could be anything perceived as bad... The fact is, if someone is doing something like that and trying to conceal it, shouldn't you avoid and inform? On the flipside, this person is being honest, so while that type of modification may not be to my taste, I would still give them business if they had a piece I desired. Someone who played games, I wouldn't be inclined to chance anything..
Poor Lepers. They get such a bad rap. I wonder if being a leper in Romainia is worse. SO sad.
