Randall Hall & Co. Sheffield...?

I tried searching for info, but this brand seems to have barely been a "flash in the pan".

One of my local auction houses has a handful of razors listed for their weekly auction for next week. I have only been to this place once or twice, as most of the items are up for bids are best best described as unwanted leftovers from a yard sale that ran three weekends in a row lol. I don't judge, they have been in business for years :shrug:.

Anyway. The description said it is a Randall Hall & Co. Sheffield razor. The pic is too crappy to read anything, but it hits my eye like a W&B...

I found another thread that had a razor with the same brand, but I think that one still had "Manufactured by Wade & Butcher" stamped on the tang. It was described as "under contract" or something like that.

I'll see if I can inspect the razors on my day off, ahead of the auction date. But I wanted to ask "the peanut gallery" what they thought :chapeau!

I have a couple of Randall Hall blades, they were made by Randall Hall. I have no idea if they did any contract work for W&B.

One is a classic Sheffield, 7/8" near wedge. My other one is a rather light weight, smallish faux frame back style grind. They are good razors, worth the effort as long as they are not too far gone.

I dug up the thread I'd found earlier. I'm not saying all of the Randall Hall razors were made by other companies. But they also wouldn't be the first ones to send their excess demand to a larger firm.

The thread I linked points to RH having contracted W&B to make some razors to be sold under the Randall Hall brand. It'll probably be a great shaver, regardless; seeing as how it is a vintage Sheffield.

Randall Hall & Co , was "The oldest exclusively cutlery house in the United States, west of New York. Established 1862." Ernest Hall son of Charles Hall a merchant of cutlery in England, imigrated to the US in 1860, fought in the civil war, and started his cutlery business with his brother in law William L. Randall. Strong connection to Sheffield claims their razor stamped Randall Hall & co , Sheffield. Ernest Hall died in 1905.

This should get added to our Library, which is woefully lacking in some areas.

Martin103, there is a data base section that has nothing on Randall hall, apparently there is a form to fill out to get it added to the data base.

Yes, the SRP SRDB was the first place I looked. Nothing! Then a thread search here revealed only one thread (already linked), plus a few restoration/SOTD mentions that didn't really reveal anything about the maker. After that, I turned to Google. Hallf of the usable results were the ones I'd already found here :aargh:. The other results were on other forums, but didn't add any new info :(.

The whole reason I started this thread was to find out more about the maker and/or razor itself. Sorry if I didn't come right out and say that, it was past my bedtime lol.

Alas, I managed to break the scales so I had Gssixgun put that blade into some nice honey horn.... I can't seem to find the picture right now, but rest assured... it's even prettier now!

Yep, found that one already. Good looking razor, for sure! Didn't help quench my thirst for knowledge, though. Thanks for the link.
