This is the third time around for that listing. The first time it was a BIN @ $2100.00 and no bites. Then he put it up, as now, with a reserve, and it got to $1125.00 reserve not met. Personally I think he'd be better off doing the BIN at his asking price, whatever it is.
Costs a lot more to list with a reserve than a fixed price, and for an item like that it is hard to find a motivated buyer.
I'd buy it in a pair of seconds ............ the spirit is willing ......... but the bank account is weak ! .......... :ziplip:
At least if you buy that razor, you can rest assured its worse cut will be made to your wallet rather than your face.
I can't even see the $ ballpark that razor plays in from my bank account.
Yup I don't really understand the reserve. Why not just start at it... a gorgeous razor for sure.
At that price it is cheap.
However, with unique pieces, it is only worth something if there is at least one person who wants to have just that particular razor.
I would buy it but Bruno took all my money.
I can't rob another bank for a couple months.
I mean if it was a big choppin 9/8 or 10/8 I'd buy it. For a 6/8 I couldn't justify spending more than half of its starting price.
for any of you guys who has purchased a Timahagane razor its well above that price, but like people have said its all in who wants it. great craftsmanship in his razors and that steel is very unique, so for any sitting on the fence wanting one of his this is a great buy. Tc
I'm almost positive this is owned by a member here.
I guess it boils down to diminishing means, and how much money you have to spend. If you have $2000+ to spend on a razor, then it's not an issue of money. In that case a meteorite steel custom smelted and forged razor would seem like a bargain!
The tang, spine, grind, damascus pattern and bevel size are impeccable.
I am tempted to bid..............
I would buy it except for the horrible international shipping program....... I just have to stop eating for a few months too.
Seriously if the razor is shipped normal USPS then no import tax in Korea but using the program course of Ebay it adds $300-$400 plus this shipping time is longer.
I would bid on it, I have wanted a TZ for a long time. But NYS has confiscated my Refunds, and I just had an emergency Vet fiasco. So, no buying for a while.
Reserve not met at $1,030.00. As has been pointed out in this thread the razor should have been posted with the actual sales price wanted by the owner.
I don't understand listing with a reserve. I usually just skip those listings. Why make us chip away to find the minimum bid?
Neat razor and a nice concept but as others have said - you need a buyer willing to buy it when you are ready to unload it.
I personally will stick to the lower price range vintage straights and save the big money for shop tools. I can buy a quality piece of woodworking equipment and that someday I can sell it knowing I will take a depreciation on it but also know there is a market for something like that.
Listing a high dollar item at the asking price can turn buyers away from jump street. Starting low can generate interest. With the reserve in place to protect the seller’s investment.
More guys having the listing in their watch list, or their bidding list, will keep them looking at it and eventually could wear the potential buyer's resistance down. That is the strategy as I understand it. I generally just flat price stuff and figure if there is someone out there that wants it they'll buy it. Below, the original listing. You can see that his minimum is high. Not saying it isn't worth it, or that it is. Worth whatever someone is willing to pay I guess.

What would the fabrication cost be to commission something like that anyway?
If memory serves the asking price of this one is around the cost of the first one he did years ago. Here are some links, oldest first, of his posting on meteorite razors with the third link on the one that was listed on ebay ;

I think it's because you entice more people at lower prices, then potentially get them hooked on the "I have to have this" and they spend more than they originally wanted to. But yea reserve listing costs more money, so I dont do think do them anymore.

Hmm... Yeah, with customs you have to take a hit or sit on it awhile until someone with similar taste and the cash sees it and wants it. Livis take a good drop on resale, not cheap by any means but not what he charged either. Custom guitars are that way as well, you never get all your cash back.
For me, if its an item that I dont really care if I sell it or not, I list it with a starting bid at the lowest amount that I am willing to allow it to go for. If nobody bids that number, so be it. I keep it. But its true that this does rule out any chance of a bidding frenzy. The "dammit, I've been outbid! I'll show him, I'll go 10 dollars higher!"
I think reserve prices are good for some items, not so much for others. I would say the more expensive it is, the more reasonable having a reserve becomes.
The market for an item like this is limited, very limited. I would imagine the buyer might be a dedicated Zowada collector.
Anyone who puts up an expensive item at a low price without a reserve is asking for a shellacking. It is possible that the item will bring the desired amount, but equally possible that the seller will lose out on his investment. I'd rather just put my desired top price in a BIN, with a best offer option if I'm willing to take less. To each his own, that is my policy.
Yup. I had to stop doing listings that start at 0.01 and have no reserve. I lost several hundred dollars on some really awesome razors.

People commonly pull the auctions at the last minute if they see it's not going their way. Not legal and if eboy sees you do it numerous times they can kick you out.
Yea, I see it all the time. It really irritates me, so I never do it. Again, I play it by ear. I still do auctions starting at .99 Like the FBU I got going on right now.
Is there a chance it will go cheaper than I paid? sure. But I offered it up knowing that could happen, and being ok with it. Unlike the Escher where I put a high price on it from the git-go, because I refuse to allow it to go for less. Since I seldom pay top dollar for a razor (I have to really love it for that, and that means I probably wont be putting it up for sale) I am ok with not GETTING top dollar on every sale. I can usually make up for it elsewhere. Like the Hindenburg razor I sold a while back, It went for 2x more than I thought it would. That makes up for the mint Puma that sold for about 20 less than I paid for it. You win some, you lose some!
