A Note on Bidding at Auctions

I have said this many times over the years, but it needs repeating.

USE YOUR EYES!

There are a number of online auction sites that have been, and are, and will, auction off lots of our favorite articles of manliness.

Yet time and again, I have zoomed in on a picture, said, "Jeeze, thats a crack running right through it!" and watched as the auction shot up into the hundreds of dollars. On Ebay, you MIGHT have a prayer if they offer a return policy, but any other auction site you are simply out of luck.

Despite the claims of the auctioneers, they are NEVER actual "experts" on razors, and while they will not (usually) actively obscure or alter a photo , they are just NOT obligated to look for, or announce, any damages on the goods.

Finishes that look so shiny, show themselves to be wire brushed on close examination.

and as another point in this "Chaps My Ass" post...
Nothing pisses me off quite as much as losing a bid on an estate auction, only to see the same razor show up in the auctioneers Personal auction.
Makes me want to never attend an auction by that place again.

In short, USE YOUR ZOOM.... DO YOUR HOMEWORK, SET YOUR LIMITS!

I know what you mean. Many times I have noticed a crack radiating from a chip and notified the seller. Most thank me and change listing. There are a few that say thanks and never mention it. Even when I explain a buyer could complain and leave a bad feedback they don't care.

Another point is on the selling side. I like to put in my listings (when I think of it) "bidders must have 10 positive feedback points or the sale will not happen".
I've had to relist items because someone new had no clue as to what he was doing. Refused to pay. I say let them learn on someone else's listing. Now, I don't know if this is correct or if you can refuse to sell. But it helped me before. If someone is serious and is new they will contact me and ask to bid.

One of the (oh so many) other things that bother me, is when they sell a "lot" of razors, and toss a single "Chopper" into the mix. The chopper will have a crack in it, while I want the sweet 6/8 shoulderless (one of my fav styles) so the lot price will skyrocket out of reach due to some fools fighting for a wind chime

Just thought of another. They have a start bid or best offer (Best offer is lower than start bid by ebay rules). You bid a few dollars under and they decline and counter offer with a much higher amount.

I once sent in a best offer of 90, and they rejected it. It sold for 85 (not to me) I made a fair offer, they were greedy. They were probably sure I would at least come in and bid my 90 and keep the war going, but I turn my back when that happens

There used to be a thread here where people shared their ebay id, but it was closed down I believe, probably because too many used it to promite their ebay sales, without actually being a participating member of the forum. As I recall, you cant use the ebay "search" box to look up member names, you have to use the ebay "app" on your phone, which offers a search for a user option, and even then It may not show anything if that user has nothing for sale at the moment. Im listed as meadfulthings, and I am 80% sure I exist, but I cant find myself. Maybe I should meditate more

I have meadfulthings as a saved seller on the ebay app, meaning you not only exist you sell enough cool stuff that I regularly check your listings. In that very small respect at least you are a celebrity.
