I used to drive/work the dock at FedEx Freight in Cincinnati. One night I was unloading a trailer from Louisville Kentucky. On it was a shipment that was picked up in Frankfort Kentucky, going to Lexington Kentucky.

To recap, picked up in Frankfort, traveled to Louisville, then Cincinnati, then Lexington. Or, most of the way around a triangle. Shipping routes are engineered by people who’ve never driven trucks.....or owned a map.

I sometimes think it's more about filling trucks than it is about speed or efficiency of shipping.

I just shipped a razor USPS First Class.

    Razor was in razor box.
Razor box in padded envelope folded in half and taped.
Small padded envelope in larger padded envelope.

Razor delivered today. Buyer sent photos of razor and you are not going to believe it.

    Razor box in three pieces.
    Scales broken.
    Blade snapped in half.

    Small envelope fairly good.
Outer envelope looks like it was stabbed with something.

Needless to say I have sent a full refund.
    HOLEY CRAP! That's insane!

I ship my Gold Dollars in toothbrush cases inside padded envelopes. Good enough for a GD, I can easily replace that and send another, and even an extra one for lagniappe if I am really feeling the love, but knock on wood, haven't lost one yet in a toothbrush case. A premium razor I always ship box in a box, not counting the coffin if there is one. If there is no coffin for it, then it gets toothbrush case. So far they have proven indestructible but I am sure the guy who broke that one, could break a razor inside two boxes and a toothbrush case. I get them on amazon, aliexpress, or fleabay, for about .50/ea, usually, by the case. They ain't purty but they gitter done for chimp change.

    I like that idea.

I have had a razor arrive like that, in a PVC pipe. Indestructible.

Never had any problems with FedEx, stuff always arrives on time, sometimes earlier. Whoever designs their routes, I applaud them.

That is just sad. How someone can damage something so simple is beyond my understanding. I think they have software with artificial intelligence that helps to deal with parcels. But it is not ideal, so you have such trouble with yours. Hope these guys https://s-pro.io/artificial-intelligencecan develop something better.
