Thread: Has anybody dealt with Dimitry Lowie?

From no razor to 2 razors! Thanks to Steve and Leonard for fixing me up. Haven't cut myself (yet) either, unlike with the shavette.

Yeah, straights and shavettes may look alike (mostly) but they are different animals. I think you should find straights easier to shave with. They do require more maintenance but the shave itself I find easier.

Totally! Those single-edged shavette blades are nothing like the edge on a straight-razor blade. It might seem counter-intuitive, but SR shaving technique just doesn't translate to a shavette... and it's all due to those !@#$ SE blades.

Oh yeah, those shavettes will bite your azzz if you're not super careful, and I always found they gave a super harsh shave....nothing compares to the butter of some vintage/antique steel.....Sheffield steel especially, like Butta I tell you, like butter! lol

Man, this talk about how rough shavettes are has me excited! I've been using shavettes for a little over 5 years now and have loved every minute of it. Well, almost every minute of it - I have had a few rough and bloody shaves with them that weren't so enjoyable . But I just got my first straight in the mail earlier this week from Bouschie And if straights really are that much better than shavettes, I am very excited to use it next week!!!

Steve, Thank you being the person that you are! Things like that are why this is the only shave forum I am a member of. This forum is full of knowledge, skill, kindness, and a desire to help others that is just not common in this world anymore. I raise my glass to all of you who have done things like this to help the rest of us to get the most out of our shaving experience!

(And I hope things are truly better for Dimitry now, or that he can be banned or put on probation from B/S/T to prevent tarnishing the good name of SRP)

Nice of you to say and i appreciate it, but I didn't do it for the praise (although it is nice ).

When I first started shaving, Mike (Outback) asked me how many razors i had. I told him I had one and a shavette to use while my razor was being sent for honing so he sent me FOUR shave ready razors, just like that.

My first razor started to pull and I mentioned in the forum how lucky i was that I had been sent four razors because I was going to have to send my first razor out, DZEC sent me a Barbers Hone, just like that and I never did send it out.

Shortly after I started shaving with a straight. (about 3 months), I bought my first stones, 1K, 4K/8K Nortons and a 12K Naniwa SS. PaulFLUS sent me FOUR blunt razors with just the bevel set to practice honing with, just like that.

I was sent a medium Ark and some Welsh Slate from THP001 and a jar of Cro Ox from JoelKerr. Shaun (Rezdog) sent me some VCI paper and offered to send me some scale blanks and when I got my first DE, Jerry (Gasman) sent me a large selection of blades so i could decide which I liked best (Nacets).

If I forgot anyone that generously sent something to me i apologize.

I was and still am amazed and touched by the incredible generosity of the guys on SRP and always promised that I would pay it forward as soon as I was able to.

GarciaF had an unfortunate experience so I saw a chance to honour the guys that selflessly helped me. I don't have enough razors to do it again for a while but when my collection grows a bit and I can afford to give some away, I will keep paying it forward. If you guys had not helped me I would probably be shaving with a cartridge and a can of lazy shave by now so

My cheeks are now as smooth as a baby's bottom, but I learned my first lesson the hard way. Young people will say something similar to "fool around and find out," and I fooled around and found out. I guess gun handling rules also apply to razors, at least the part about always knowing where the muzzle is pointing being the same as always know where the sharp side of the razor is pointing. While holding the razor in my right hand, I waved my left hand past, and soon I was at the urgent care department having my cut glued back together. Experience is a hard teacher, but the lesson sticks.
