I've waited with posting this until the serious bidding started so noone can accuse me of spoiling a steal :)
I had thought to bid on this myself but 200$ was going to be my max.

I guess that this one will at least fetch 500$. Mayeb a lot more. It looks like it has never been used at all.

I was going to post that link. What a find. It'll be interesting to see what it fetches. I set a snipe @ $250 last night when it was $36, but it looks like I'm not going to steal it for that.
I didn't even bother with a snipe because the chances of getting that razor for less than 200$ are very, very low indeed
I was going to place a last minute bid of 200$ in the unlikely event that it was still below that.
With a 5/8 tang it won't be easy to use. IMO more collectors' than a users' item.
I think you need that size for the tang if you want to be able to manipulate that razor. with small tangs you'd have to put more power in your thumb in order to work the razor angle druing the shave.
I also think it's not much of a user - at least not for me. Over the last months, I have developed a preference for 6/8 or so full hollows and framebacks...
Need to whip out my big boys again just to see how I feel about them now
Back to topic - Gary got one of these for 35 a couple of years ago I think :) I'd love to have it for about 200 myself, but am definitely not paying 500 for it. A collector is another story, of course. For this one I'd venture it would sell below 400 :shrug:

Pretty razor, but it looks like the scales are celluloid, rather than horn. What do others think? If the scales are non-original, surely it won't sell for too much more than $228 (where it is as I type)? :shrug:
I think scales are just mint horn :) I haven't seen any one of these razors with celluloid scales. If it sells just for 228 some people here may regret not bidding :shrug:Quote:

Thank god I didnt see this for sale! I cant afford it right now, but my 12/8 really wants a little brother.
Ok guy's..... I'll come out with it. This razor shaves like a dream and handles very well for it's size. It had never been sharpened, so I honed it and put it to the strop....
This is now my GOTO razor. Out of my 50+ razors it shaves the best. I've had a lot of trouble with 5/8 and some 6/8's with skipping and jumping around on my face, but this razor just glides and I get a BBS shave every time even though it was scary putting up to my neck the first few times. But now it's a breeze and it feels nice and solid and holds an edge very well.
Congrats. At least we know that it is in the hands of a real shaver, and not in a glass cabinet somewhere, or in the hands of a plebe who wouldn't know what to do with it (it is so sharp it cuts paper easily... )
