Is there a crack running straight thru the hone?
I'll ask the seller but thought I had to warn you guys. In your excitement of having a chance to own an Escher it is easily overlooked.
At least it follows the long side, so theoretically you'd get 2 usable razors, possibly nice for blades that goes like this :rolleyes: :) :D

The crack runs through the bottom of the stone.
Not sure if it reaches the top, or is only superficial.
If I'd buy it for using, I would probably glue it to a piece of granite, or maybe have a thin piece of belgian blue cut to size, and glue that to the back of it.
Wonder what it will fetch. No doubt a disgustingly large sum.
Seller sent me additional pictures that show it is not a crack. He says it is a rut on the backside.

That hunk-o-rock will fetch a nice price.
A bit curious, how would a rock like that compare to a chinese 12k? Not talking collectors value or anything just the finish on the blade and whatnot.
Just a hunch (I believe I own an Escher but haven't used it and can't yet confirm if it is actually an Escher), but my guess is Escher owners are going to say the edge from that stone is superlative compared to a Chinese 12K. I'm curious to get some feedback on this as well. $35 Chinese 12K vs. $100- 200+ Escher. Would the Escher put a edge that would be three to five times as comfortable as the Chinese 12K? I know, I know, you can't quantify it like that, it still just amazes me that the Chinese 12K which is almost the size of a brick costs that little for how it performs (nicely).Quote:

Check Joel's interactive straight razor shaving guide on B&B. It has a rating of the various hones available amongst others an Escher and a Chinese 12K if I am not mistaken. He does elaborate on the differences.Quote:
