Too Much for a Boker?

I ended up winning this auction

Fairly new to buying (for collecting) straight razors so don't really know "accurate" prices especially with things like dubl ducks hitting over 500 bucks.

I usually get snipped on everything I bid on so I put a little higher bid on this one just because I really like the covered tang and monkey tail.

Just curious what some of you that are more up on good prices thought of the 99 spent.

Thats a nice one. How much is to much? If you are happy thats all that matters, Personally I think you did fine.

Interesting Boker. as for the price it's value is what ever you are willing to spend, like doc said if your happy then all is well.

I think you made out pretty good the way prices are going right now. Once that razor is tuned up, it will be worth a lot more in today's market.

I'd say the price is quite okay for the razor in such nice condition. You did well :D

Thanks for the input guys. I understand that it falls into a how much do you want to spend kinda thing. I just wanted some opinions, while I didn't mind spending what was spent it makes me feel better that it wasn't a case of spending 3x a reasonable price. (makes it easier to explain to the wife this way also) :)

Boker Injuns in decent shape often go for ~$100. Yours is not a run of the mill Boker, it is on the "fancY' side of things, so for $99, seems liek a very decent purchase!

Ebay has really made for a fundamental shift in what is considered the "value" of items or types of material goods rather than in the past. It's pretty amazing.

It's understood that the "value" of something to the individual is how much that individual is willing to pay.

When we refer to the "value" of something in general, however, I think most would agree we're referring to what the public or a group of individuals (a collective) with a similar interest in an certain type of item regard as the typical "value" of something. Given that the "value" of something can change so rapidly on Ebay and can be influenced directly by something as simple as a favorable post by one individual on a web forum, I think "values" as regarded by a collective on Ebay has been diluted or even obliterated to the point where Ebay values are really a reflection of value to the individual and are no longer an accurate baseline that can be used for valuations. The anomalies we see from time to time where a certain razor sells for 5 times+ what most would think it should sell for IMO do not automatically raise the value of an item to that level. I don't think my opinion would ever change on that. If tomorrow a Case Red Imp or similar fairly easy to find nothing special razor in good condition which normally sells for under $100 sold for $4,000 on Ebay, no one could convince me that as of tomorrow, the value of Case Red Imp razors in good condition would then be $4,000.

However, if 4 similar imps reached that point in an auction within 2 months... i would say that the market value of the imp was 4k and would list mine accordingly.

That razor looks very nice, but, for me, as a user of a razor, I would not have bid on it because of the flaws along the edge.
I hope that the flaws are just cosmetic.
