Mislabeled items

I find watching auctions on Ebay entertaining my problem is I keep finding things that I know are going to be good deals - usually because they are mislabeled or that the description is missing something that would allow more people to find it and result in a higher price.

My problem is I am tempted to buy every one. It would be better for me if I were to post it here and allow one of the other members get it. Then I live it through them vicariously. It would cost me less and make my wife happier as she sees the the parade of boxes and envelopes slow.

The side effect of this is that the price may be raised for m members bidding against one another and paying more. I still think it will be less than if it were labeled correctly in tyhe first place, but more than if I kept my mouth shut.

Right now I see a mislabeled Dorko, Henckel, Dubl Duck and a Boker. There is probably more if I really put my mind to it.


BTW I am going after the Henckel, but would like to share the Dorko, and other future finds.

I search the same way for other items. I also buy and sell vintage manual type-writers (yeah, not just strops here) and it is amazing how many people cannot spell the word. Actually type-writer is correct but most list as typewriter. Many steals can be found as typeriter, typewritter, etc..... Even better are the people who have something really nice and instead of using all 55 or so spaces in the title line write "typewriter" only.....no brand, no indicator of vintage, new, old, etc..... just the single word. Those always seem to be the best finds. Shaving stuff goes the same way.

A few years ago I found plenty of coticules and Eschers from crazy searches for words relating to sharpening.

I recently won a 2 line swaty and a neat Pike Handihone that were labled as "2 old sharpening stones" for $5.95. :D I stumble on many mislabled shaving items, but usually I won't bid if I see a bid in already - I figure that bidder should get the same luck I got. On the other hand, if I have placed a bid on a "bonker" :roflmao, and the world finds out, then I figure it just wasn't meant to be :shrug:, not to mention that's money I can bid with another day.

What should you do. Send a message to the seller telling them that they are not using e bay to their best advantage. I don't think so.

I think that if you do the research, you are entitled to the prize.

I think that you have a lot of knowledge to know the different makes let alone know when the seller has made a typo or spelling mistake. Knowledge is power.
Some sellers will only sell to their own Country. That's just as stupid because they miss out on international customers and higher prices.

Some sellers advertise every piece of junk that comes through their hands.

It's a market place. Let the buyer beware. Don't you worry about your good fortune or knowledge.

This decent Dorko went zero bid on Belgian ebay (h/t Bart from another thread). Now Belgium is a nice little country, but it's LITTLE!

This guy would have cleaned up on big ebay what with all the anglophone Dorko fiends around.

It is easier if you look at attractively priced and 0-1 bidders.

if you find someone who doesn't seem to know razors, check their other items (even if this one is labeled right) to see if they mislabeled another.

Good, maybe I can snag the next Doku razor myself. I didn't get the bonker though.

Darn it! This forum is costing me money again! Being an Anglophile, it's been irking me that I don't have a Sheffield razor. So I find this thread, then find this! The scales look like crap, but the blade isn't rusting off, so it just might be worth $11.

Of course there are other online auctions. I haven'tdecided if this is better or worse than Ebay.
