I saw this, was looking for razors with some sore of file work ont he spine (missed a cool "navy" one) but the price on this is soaring, what'st he reason?

Interesting, isn't it? I think you can still get Bartmann razors from John Crowley for considerably less. Of course, they are not rare, unique, and near mint with only a few water spots.:shrug:
I have a couple of Le Grelots with no water spots, but that would probably drive the value way down. I guess I'll keep 'em. Once again the opportunity for great wealth passes me by. Rats!

admittedly this one is a Wacker grind without the file work. I am definitely going to show this auction to my wife when it's over - a great negotiating tool..

I'm gonna guess there are some collectors or Bartmann nuts out there that don't know about the shavingshop and who forget that there are others out there. Then again, I'd say the same for any bidding war on a straight razor.

I think this seller has accumulated some customers that follow him with no guilt about flinging around their do-re-mi.

This one looks nicer than the bartman but still.? Ebay makes people crazy, I guess it is that it's mine, you can't have it mentality. Just the other night I was watching a Dremel stylus tool. This tool retails for $69 at the Home Depot and there were several buy it nows ranging from $65-$69 with varying shipping. In the last 10 minutes of the auction it went from $51 up to a $100 ending price with $12 shipping. Every time I refreshed, it went up. The crazy nut could have gotten the tool for at least $30 cheaper right there on ebay or I'm sure the gas plus sales tax at a retailer would not have come close to the $112.Quote:

You've got to love Ebay for it's unexplainable anomalies (Especially if you're a seller!;)).
Even though I've only sold a handful of razors on Ebay, I learned a great tip recently. Never list something for less than 9.99. Anything less really isn't worth the trouble of even listing. I'm going to do that from now on with razors that I do sell. It will eliminate unintentionally selling a nice Torrey for .99 cents and the like (the guy never paid, so I was able to keep that razor though; imagine, not paying after winning a .99 cent razor!!).

It actually looks like two people set either Slam Bids or Slam Snipes and were very close to each other....
In other words "I AM GOING TO GET" that item so I set a $500 bid / snipe thinking that it might go to 200-300 but I will get it anyway, so if 2 people do the same thing you have a $500 bid, I am guilty of doing that on certain razors that I know I want "PERIOD" so far I have lucked out and never butted heads with somebody doing the same thing...... A certain DD Reaper comes to mind :D

This is why I always bid only what I am ready to pay, nothing more... maybe that is also why I don't usually win many bids :p
I saw this happen a few times with classic fishing reels. The guys had quite a racket going. They gobbled a bunch up at low prices and then 'created' a market for them with a bunch of auctions and high bids. The reels never actually changed hands. They actually helped me by setting a high 'comparable value' for the ones that I was selling. Eventually, they sold out and the 'market' collapsed.Quote:

Beautiful razor, no doubt. Alot more intricate than the Shavingshop one shown for comparrison (that one the name is laser etched, not stamped indicative of a new production blade).
They both look fishy to me too. Notice how the runner-up bidder was the same guy (m*** with 19 feedback) both times. I've seen weird stuff like that before. I always thought it might be some money laundering scheme lol.
