    Default Fingers crossed

I noticed this auction with a few hours to go and figured I'd place a bid.

Old Shaving Straight blade Barber Knives - eBay (item 380116959013 end time Apr-14-09 17:12:25 PDT)

I wasn't expecting to win considering my lowball bid, but I guess no one else was willing to take a chance on razors that didn't show the condition of the blades. When I saw a Temperite and a Spike I figured it was worth a shot. The Temperite I own now is the best razor of the bunch, and I hear good things about Spikes.

Rust is evident on the spines, but I'm hoping (though not counting on it) that the edges may still be in good condition. For the price I paid I'm not going to be overly distressed if the both turn out to be dogs. However, if one of them turns out to be a gem I figure I ended up with a good deal.

    Fingers crossed...

    Default They're Here!

Just as I was wrapping up paperwork in my office I had a package dropped on my desk. Naturally, since I'm such a dedicated worker, I dropped everything and ripped open the package.

The razors are by no means pristine, but I'm happy to say that there's no cell rot. Both have rusted blades, but not terrribly so. Both are centered in the scales and fit snugly, which is a real surprise. The ad on the bay indicated that they might never have been honed. Not even close to true, but there's still a good bit of life in these blades once they're cleaned up.

I'll have to get my hands on some higher-grit paper to make these things shine again, but I'm looking forward to using them. The only bad thing I noticed is that the Temperite has a smile since the toe is noticeably shorter than the heel. Not by a lot, but it's obvious. Still, if it shaves as well as my other Temperite I'm going to be a very happy camper.

They may not be meat choppers or some highly sought-after brand, but they will end up being good, reliable razors. All for less than $10.

    Woo hoo!
