Old Wade & Butcher Sheffield Barber's Straight Razor - eBay (item 300314187175 end time May-17-09 19:00:00 PDT)

Bastard?! I resemble that remark.:rofl2:
Twernt me, I got mine for $60.
The one in the classifieds is a different razor (not for barber's use). These have been going for over $250 lately so it sounds crazy but this one isn't a bad deal :o
Wasn't me either.
I just got this one for $19.50.
A little project for me.
(Cracked) original scales and the blade appears to be in great shape. These razors are pretty rare. If the scales weren't cracked and the blade was shinier, it probably would have fetched $300+.
I still think in the current market, it's not a bad price for that blade. I would have expected $225 or so.
I also personally think it looks awesome just like it is. I'd keep it as is if it were me, both the cracked original scales and the worn look. Looks like the scales still function and I like the worn look on that blade.
That blade looks great! The scales are a little worse for worn, but I don't see anything wrong with the blade at all. Maybe could use a little polish but that's it. It's a little steep for me, but I've seen them go for more.
Pyment, that's a beautiful razor you got for very little! You better post pictures of that when you get it shining. :D
The guy that bought it posted it in Razors, he's sending to to Max. That's a high price for a fixer upper...
There are two of this exact model every week in the ebay. Saturday (2 days ago): one sold at $275 (broken scales). Sunday (yesterday): $235 (broken scales). It is impossible to say that those blades are rare; they could be less common than people who want them, but not rare.
In my opinion a rare razor is something like this (2nd one in the post). That's why I payed 150$ for it (the most expensive razor I ever bought :p). How many of this have you seen? Not only the scales, but the blade as well can be considered a difficult find.
My first vintage razor was a W&B 8/8 "for barber's use" (#1 in my gallery). I bought it 5 months ago and payed 105$ for it. I thought it was an unique find but now I know that I could find a new "barber's use" every week. EDIT: here the next one.
OK, I am slightly off topic, but I feel it's important to define what is rare and what is highly requested.
I paid only $ 73 for my W&B 8/8 "for barber's use"....

Clavichord, you're absolutely right, I shouldn't have used the word rare. I tried to tone it down with the "pretty" as in "pretty rare" but still, it's the wrong word. I meant more to say that there is wayy more demand than supply for these razors.

Please visit and contribute to this new thread about W&B prices!
Wow ... it seems some feathers got ruffled with this auction!
I am the Guilty party ... I don't worry about the price too much ... I AM happy this went for alot less than the other 2 choppers I was going for.
As for the scales .... I have some unique plans in mind for them .... I think it can be an OUTSTANDING razor when done with what I have planned!
I didn't know I was stepping on any toes going after this one ... if I did please accept my apology.
This WAS an auction where the highest bid wins... I have lost LOTS of these, so I will be happy with the one I got. (At a much lower price than the other 2 I went after)
I do think she will clean up fine and be a show stopper when she is unveiled in her new state.
Just wait and see!!!

Steve
You got it, Ichinichi. I'll get the old lightbox out in the next few days and take a group shot.
I'll let you know when I do.
Steve
Wow, so sensitive? I'll sell YOU the razor so you can be happy again...
haha, once more, you're taking it the wrong way (i think).
i wasn't sarcastic about thanking you for toning down the text - it really is difficult to read in size 5 and bold.
Yep ... it was a sniper that won the auction for me. By the way ... you, sir, are a class act for the pm you sent me. No offense taken at all. Here is my response for the world to read:
"No offense taken, my friend. Don't worry about it. I know that we are a community of gentlemen, and sometimes we can make a post with no malice in mind, but can be read by someone removed from the situation and taken the wrong way. "
To use a popular urban vernacular: "It's all good in the hood!"
Steve
This is why I love this forum ... there is little need for anyone to police us ... much!!!
The "golden rule" is comon here. It is not a novel idea.
(stepping off of my soapbox)
Steve
I think he got a great deal on that razor. Since I have gotten into straight razors a few months ago I am seeing prices of $250 and up. To me these prices are the going rate and anything under $200 is a bargain
