help me choose a 1000 grit hone from the following

I'd like an inexpensive hone for bevel work. I already have a spyderco medium, coti combo, 12k chinese and a 4/8k norton.
Now I just need something in the 1000 range.
Which of these wold be best:

A norton 4k/8k compares to 1k/5k JIS stones such as King and Naniwa, and may be suitable for setting your bevel. Also, your spyderco may be similiarly suited as most stones that are only marked fine/medium are in my own trials really quite coarse. I found this out with an aluminum oxide stone that was supposedly good for a 'mirror finish' that was around 400/1200 grit rating on either side.

Can't really hep you with what to get I use wet/dry paper for my work in that range. But I can tell you a Norton 4/8 is completely unsuitable for heavy bevel setting work. The Spyderco medium is comparable to a 600 grit hone and could be used for heavy bevel work, and you can go straight from here to the 4000 Norton, though I would use it with extremely light strokes only.

My spyderco medium is roughly 3500-4000 (a little, but just a fraction, coarser than the norton 4000)




So what would a nice bevel setter (on totally dull razors) be in japanese, european, american grit size?

If you take a look at the comparative grit charts (American/Japanese) IIRC they are very close in the lower grits. IME a 1k Norton, Naniwa or Shapton pro perform similarly.
