Winchester Razor: shaver or collector who would pay more?

I've been viewing the few recent Winchester straight razor auctions, the completed auctions on Ebay since I welcomed a very nice Winchester 5/8 round point with tortoise celluloid scales into my family yesterday.

I saw that a known Ebay razor power seller has a Winchester razor on Ebay now and notes in the main description that it's "Shave ready".

That got me thinking: Who would pay more for a nice Winchester straight razor on Ebay?

• Collectors of any and all things Winchester (I would believe such an individual, by the way, would give diddly squat about whether such a razor was "shave ready").
• A straight razor user/collector of all things straight razor and secondarily as a Winchester brand razor.

Just for fun, what would your speculation be and why? Any answer including mine is of course pure speculation; but, it's fun to speculate on this kind of stuff IMO.

My answer would be that I believe a Winchester collector would pay more all things being equal. I base this off of some Keen Kutter razors I've seen go for unusually high amounts as well as Case.

I agree that a Winchester collector would pay more. Particularly if his focus is cutlery. They made pocket knives in the '20s and '30s and those are quite collectible. The shave ready would only be of interest to one of us and I personally would rather get it shave ready myself. :)

Why not list one on Ebay and ask the winning seller why he bought it?

I think that's the only way to know, because it would go on a case by case basis. There are also shavers who are collectors and collectors who are shavers (and I would say that those are two different things).

BTW, I just bought a case razor this afternoon for about $20 shipped.

A true collector would probably pay more. Especialy if it were mint or nos, if they did not have one and needed it to complete a collection. Several varibles to consider.

I think no matter the item a collector will always pay more for something than a user. Just think about it. Guns, cars,tools,razors,old bottles, etc.

I agree with you about a collector paying more for a piece than the user. For this razor I see a nice 19/32" round point all original with amber swirl celluloid scales. It's not perfect, has a few blemishes, but it's a nice round point. Since I don't collect Winchester memorabilia I'm not looking it it too much from that perspective.

Nice piece. If it shaves as good as it looks I bet it's a keeper. :)

I sold this one on the bay a while ago, I don't think it was going to be used for shaving but who knows

speak of the devil, I just looked on the bay and was able to pick up a very nice one for under $50! woot!
