dubl duck experts ... is this a rescaled Satinedge ?

This Satinedge is listed as mint and the blade appears to be. OTOH, as a rule the Satinedges I've seen come with the clear celluloid scales. Some with the fancy brass script/2 duck inlay on the lower end and others with the embossed 'Satinedge' without the brass on the end but clear celluloid in any case.

He is asking a healthy price. Not unreasonable if the scales are original to the blade IMO considering the price of a new higher end TI, Dovo, or Hart.

I emailed the seller and told him that the scales are not original to the blade. He replied that if they are not that he got hornswageled. I may be wrong... though I think I'm right. What do the dubl duck experts say ?

Rescale IMO too, and that is also crazy expensive, even if it was mint in the original scales.

I think the seller is full of it. $340 for a honed satinedge with odd scales that are more than likely a replacement seems a bit crazy to me.
Unless the seller has a video of breaking the seal of the box and out there comes the razor with these scales there is no way he can convince me those are the original scales.

These look fairly authentic to me, or at least coming from Pearlduck. The bolsters are of the same design as those of translucent Satinedge scales or of Otto Deutsch.

As to the original question...

those are definitely not original, in my opinion. Look at the last picture- there is a brass flat washer under the pin.

Dubl Ducks that I've seen all have domed washers or steel rivets.

My guess from the pics is that it is a re-scale, but I need to see the pins on both side to be sure... DD pins are very distinct...

Just because we haven't seen those type of scales on a Satinedge yet,,, doesn't automatically rule the possibility out... Heck we have seen DD's with mis-stamps too, this could be a factory mis-build....

In another thread on a Flying Dutchman/Bresnick John Crowley opined that the scales may have been put on by the factory because they ran out of the 'proper' scales for that razor. I don't have enough knowledge or experience to dispute that. Could it have been the case here with this Satinedge ?

That was my thought too Jimmy, I hate to say "no way is it factory"
we have all seen to many weird razors out there...
Even if it were in my hands I could never be 100% sure...
Bigspendur knows way more than I do about DD's and all their cousins, he has seen way more of them then I have, I just work on a lot of them :) which is why I said if I could see the pins I might could tell.... I am sure he will weigh in soon...

I thought it was odd that the seller used a dated photo from 2006.Does the razor still look like it did then?Also,the only close-up of the pivot pin was blurry as heck.
