Hi Shawn...I just saw this post...I order a razor from Preston before and he sent me a couple of samplers of his shave cream...very good stuff. I initially had a little trouble making lather, but once you get the right amount of water into this thing, no problems whatsoever...It's natural.
The only downside I found was that the stuff dries fairly quickly.
Hope this helps
all the older posts kinda got deleted hmm 2 of us had trouble getting a good lather i use it mainly to just wash my face now, one day i may try it out again as a shaving cream since i have 3 8 ounce containers
If I remember correctly, this thing has some clay in it and I think that it may be this that interferes with proper lather formation. The right amount of water is essential...it's very finicky that way...Once I got this right, good lather was a snap...but, it dries quickly.
ive bought a few stuff from him and i would recommend it again
I personally love the soap samples they sent with the razor I bought from them. I don't have a problem with the lather, but it does dry quickly. But I just wet my brush a little and hit the dry spot and it's all good. Plus the razor I got from them is top notch, but I think that they are out of business. I have not seen them post any new items on ebay for a few months and I'm kinda bummed out as they were only replacing old broken scales with wood ones and mine is balanced beautifully and I'd like to go back for another blade from them.
Before ordering, you might want to check with LawsonStone and ask about his Dubl Duck GoldEdge.
Thanks for the recommendation, but I am very specific about my scales. Only wood scales for me and I prefer much older blades, usually in the 50-100 year old age since I actually took up SR shaving for the sustainability of using something that I will never throw away and I try to avoid everything plastic in my life, even scales.
It sounds silly I know, but I'm a bit odd to begin with. But thanks again, I'm always looking for other options on blades.
I think what utopian means is that you should talk to Lawson about how he sent him his razor to be honed and never got it back.
I'm in the same boat with having sent him things and never seeing them again.
I'm sorry, I thought that you were recommending I purchase one from LawsonStone. My bad. I have dealt with Shamrock once when I bought my razor from them and since it took a week longer to ship it than they said, he sent two soap samples and a coupon for a free honing. My experience has been good, but just in case, I will pay through paypal for future purchases so if I don't get it, I can report it. But as I said, my experience was good with them so I will give the benefit of the doubt, but thanks for the heads up. And no, I do not know when to start a new paragraph.
At risk of having this post deleted, which I would understand, I would caution against any dealings with Preston. I sent him a NOS Dubl Duck Goldedge for honing in May 2010. Not only did I not get my razor back, he never contacted me or replied to any of numerous attempts by me to get in touch with him.
Others here have had the same experience. He'll be fine for 2 or 3 transactions, then he'll screw you and vanish.
I am going to close this thread for a few and have a talk with the Mod team...
Nobody is in any trouble, we just have a "No Vendor Bashing Policy" but let us talk this over
Seems there is a bit more here than meets the eye...
Thanks for your Patience
