So i scored a C-mon off the ebay(pics coming soon sorry) and ive never seen one like it before. Firsts its acryllic/see thru scales and on the blade it says made in germany and 10 ANOS DE GARANITA S 525 also. Anyone have one of these or know if they r good, I know most vintage C-mons are excellent shavers just never seen this one before again sorry for no pics will try soon
Was it Item number:230447895796 ? If so it is an Ern rescaled with C-Mon scales. If it was me I would tell the guy I made a mistake and I don't want it @ $95.00 whether that was morally right, wrong or indifferent. Sorry to disappoint. :boohoo:

I'm with Gugi on this one... it seems like alot of people on this site are quick to blame a seller, shirk responsibility, assume that all sellers are swindlers and deserve no consideration...

I'm with Gugi and BKratchmer too - all the info was there and an auction is... well, just that, an auction - 'caveat emptor' or 'let the buyer beware' really applies. It does cost the seller to list, so you should at least cover his out of pocket expenses if he is good enough to agree to compromise. I'm not blaming you or pointing a finger, but the old values certainly seem to be disappearing fast.

I see where you'er comign from and it's important to look at the seller's perspective, but there is some responsibility for the seller as well, especially in this ideal traditional gentlemanly world, to know if they are offering a Frankenblade.I think it's also relevant that it wasnt a trad. ebay auction - it was a buy-it-now where the seller asked for $95. Now that's a lot, and definitely only justified if it's proper blade, and a nice one at that - like a C-mon. WHen I have found myself in similar siutations as a buyer I email the seller and honestly tell them my predicament, see what they say. Some have no problem cancelling the sale, but rarely some do mind. In one or two cases (I have bought a lot of stuff on ebay over the years) I have sent the seller a few bucks to cover listing fees and such and we called it a wash.
On another note, those are some sweet transparent C-mon scales.

To err is human, to forgive divine. A seller accurately listed an item. The buyer went for it because he didn't have enough knowledge on razor nomenclature to realize it was a rescaled Ern. Ebay has tied a seller's hands by not allowing the seller to leave any feedback unless it is positive.
It is true that the buyer committed to buy the item. OTOH, it was worth so much less than the price that it went for I think it would be unjustified to hold the buyer to the commitment once he found out that the item is not what he thought it was. It is one thing to be honorable and another to be a chump. Just IMHO.

Very true but OTOH ..... if the seller was an honorable man he wouldn't have been asking $95 for the decrepit thing to start with. :shrug: It doesn't excuse the buyer's poor judgment in hitting the buy it now before he knew that he was buying a pig in a poke as it were but to forfeit $95 for that thing would have been cruel and unusual punishment.Quote:

when an item is overpriced, nobody bidding or buying is usually a strong indicator that is the case, and the seller will lower his price next time around.
Perhaps that seller is a stand up guy, and will help make it right, but he certainly doesnt have to. and I myself would think no less of him if he said no to canceling the sale.
I myself turned down a pumaduck, because I thought it was a frankenrazor, just my own bad luck, and lack of knowlege. You win some, you lose some!
By the way, I have some NOS muffler bearings in my garage. If anybody would like to buy one, they are on sale cheap! I will even wrap them in stock certificates for share of Brooklyn Bridge Inc.
My thinking is that from the listing I cannot infer any malice or attempt to mislead on the seller's part. I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and consider it a misspelling, not attempt to cheat.
I don't know how he has decided on the $95 value, but he has the right to put any value he desires, and when a buyer clicks that button it means he is agreeing with the seller's valuation. Up until that point he can do research and figure out if it's worth the asking price or not, not after.
And just as a food for further thought, if a clearly ignorant seller lists a mint C-Mon for $10 buy-it-now would it be wrong to buy that razor, since it's vastly undervalued? Would you feel it's the seller's right to not complete a transaction when the bidding on a razor for whatever reason ends up at a small fraction of what the razor is worth? To me this is no different, just the other way. The fact that the buyer is a member of this forum and the seller may or may not be, doesn't absolve them from the responsibility to honor their contracts, even if they made them in poor judgment. I can feel bad for them, and hope they learn from their mistakes, but what is right is right.
We have more than enough resources to help people be successful. I personally get questions all the time and I always try to provide as honest and objective feedback as I can. I've seen this idea a few times on SRP lately, but when I had a dispute with a seller I had him threaten to "report me to ebay for nonpayment," with the threat that that (presumably would need to happen more than once) could lead to revocation of my account. Is he making that up?Quote:

The ebay rules are pretty clear, placing a bid is a contract and failing to honor that contract can eventually lead to suspension of the account. I don't think ebay does it on first offense, but they do keep track.

If a seller knowingly posts an item at an outrageous price in hopes of seducing a buyer it is dishonest...
If a buyer purposely backs out of a purchase simply because he changed his mind, it is dishonorable...
If a buyer and a seller renegotiate a price/situation because of unintentional errors - because either one or the other was under-educated about the item - it is both civil and acceptable.
Just think how much more difficult and unfriendly capitalism would be if Home Depot didn't let you return a furnace filter after you misunderstood the package instructions and got the wrong type... or Macy's didn't let your wife return a dress when she misread the tag and bought the wrong size...
In other words, I don't think there's anything wrong with trying to work out a more mutually beneficial outcome with the seller.
However, if the seller won't budge -- I say honor your agreement, swallow the expense, learn from the experience, and move on.

AFAIC this seller, with over 1,500 transactions, is knowingly baiting the hook with a $20.00 item and hoping that an inexperienced buyer will jump on it. He did it the first time and, proving that he is unscrupulous, he is doing it again.
If one of us listed this in the classifieds for $95.00 the mods would be on the seller like stink on doo doo or they would be in dereliction of duty. If I agree to a transaction with an honorable man I will stand by it. If I find that I am being bamboozled that changes the game. I don't need to have the last word. I agree, there is nothing dishonest about setting what ever price you see fit -- AS LONG AS it is obvious to the purchasing party that it is the price YOU see fit... not the going price/value the market has set...Quote:

If a buyer willing and knowingly pays a higher price for an item because he really, really wants it, then cool beans - that's HONEST to goodness capitalism at work.
However, if a seller KNOWS his price vastly exceeds fair market value, AND knows the reason he's about to close a sale is because the buyer isn't familiar enough with it to know the market value, then he is willingly and purposely taking advantage of buyer.
It's called 'price gouging' -- in this particular form of it the seller is intentionally trying to prey on a potential buyer's lack of knowledge... versus forcing him to pay a higher price out of inescapable need (such as charging $10 for a gallon of milk because a hurricane is coming and you know customers have no other choice than to pay it or go without milk...)

As far as this particular eBay item/situation and its re-listing goes, I don't know if it's some kind of honest misunderstanding about his product... or really is an attempt to lure in - and take advantage of - and uneducated buyer. All I know is, I would stay away...
well here's a new twist - this gentelmanly seller seems to have agreed to cancel the transactiomnf rom the poster, but has RE-listed the item, again as an "antique c-mon razor", with no mention of its franken-ness, this time as an auction with starting price of $60 and buy-it-now of $78....
If you click on 'see other items' and then go to the menu on the left and click on 'completed listings' you'll find that after the OP canceled the transaction the seller re-listed at the same price yesterday morning and then ended the listing again and re-listed at the current price. Up until last year a seller could post a negative feedback on a buyer. Since ebay changed their feedback policy a seller can only post positive feedback with no other alternative. This has made the behavior of ebay sellers much more customer service oriented.
