I didn't realize they had software that sniped. I just figured it was people waiting til the last few seconds of the auction and placing a high bid. Ebay does all the work from there, automatically taking it up to your max bid in less than a second if needed.
My Great Great Grandfather was a Captain in the Civil War so my eBay name is: CIVILCAPT I don't know if he was a sniper or not but I am, on eBay that is. Feel free to bid against me. :D :D :D

They have a couple programs out that snipe. One that I know of is raptor. You tell them how much you are willing to pay and when to bid 3sec before, 6sec before. Usually 3 is the min. You pay them a percentage or flat fee for the service and usually get what you want because no one has time to rebid. My mom used this a couple times at christmas when she kept getting outbid.

Wow, a full fledged service for it. I'm too cheap for that. If I ever get ungrounded I'll just sit and wait for the bid myself. If I don't think I'll be there for the end of the auction I'll just have to find something else ;).
************, installs on the PC and is freeware, no cost for getting or using. Works like a charm.
I deleted the url from this post after a reasonable amount of time. Don't want it to become the standard e-bay shopping method.
Hahahah! :DQuote:

Hey what I lack in will power I make up for in wife power! ;).
I was very hesitant to use it at first but after getting sniped in the last 4 to 2 seconds from end of auction one too many times I accepted.
When in Rome....
Finally realized that there is nothing wrong with it. It is not what e-bay originally intended but societies, even virtual ones, evolve according to their own global, economic efficiencies.
These tools eliminate the psychological effect of getting outbid and feeling like adding just one more dollar is no big deal. Before you know it you are paying $50 more than any sane individual would pay for the item.
With these tools, by the time you find out you were outbid the auction is over. So there is a fairness here. The winner is the one who was willing to pay the most for the item without being affected by peer pressure.
Anyhow, I will let the post sit for the day and then edit out the link. I for one have grown to like the economic efficiency this tool offers :D.

I only snipe to avoid bidding wars. I don't look at bidding as a sporting event, so sportsmanship isn't a focal point with me. I don't even look to see who or how many people have bid on any item. Many times I will look to see what is new, throw in my snipe bid at the very beginning or the auction and forget about it. Don't even bookmark the page. I always bid less than what the razor is worth, so you guys shouldn't have a problem outbidding me. I lose almost as many as I win. I go in spurts for bidding. Latey, I have been on one of those.
If I ever get something from under you and you absolutely have to have it, email me and we can talk. There are very few that I won't let go of.
My ebay name is Hawgster. Due in large part because I own and ride several scooters. The latest being an American Iron Horse Texas Chopper. Strap that thing on and light the fire, hold on and let the beast eat. Come home take a shower, shave, glass of good whiskey...Great to be alive, isn't it!
I've purchased a few razors to practice my honing from ebay and bought Billy's restoration CD (how'd he learn to do that?) as well as a razor and a set of Ironwood scales from him (easy boy!). Indulge yourself.
Rod
Maybe the Aussies amongst us should also do this, as we'll be competing in a much smaller market. Mine is brooksy (very original)
My ebay name is ekiram45. Yea well my wife set it up so it is really hers. I don't think she ever used it.
Lynn,
Is there a plan to consolidate this onto a single file somewhere? I've been updating an Excel spreadsheet with everyone's usernames, because it's easier to view. If you're interested, let me know
If you create a post, I can make it a sticky, then you can modify and update the list when ever someone adds to it.Quote:

Rick Stowe,
Can you copy the XLS file to a word document .doc and post that. .doc is an acceptable file.
Rob & Bill,
I can save it as a doc file, no problem. Should I post it here in the forums, or should it be in the Help Files? The idea I had is if you're on ebay and looking at who's bidding, you can open up the file and quickly check instead of trying to sort through this 12-page thread, but I don't know if it can be updated if it's in the forums.
Rick,
I would imagine putting it in the help files would be better for the reason that you stated. I have never filed anything in the help files so I don't know about the updating capability in that area. I suppose one could put that url as a favorite and they could just click on it and be there in somewhat of a hurry.
Bill,
That's what I figured; keep this thread going and I'll just update the help file. I just uploaded it into the General Information section.
P.S. Look, Bill, one more post and you reach 100!!
Rick,
The file comes up great in MS Word.........great work.
Yes I noticed that I had 99 posts so made a special 100th post in the general section.

Mine's ilija20... Which means I got it 6 years ago. A buddy set up my ebay account when it was still a new thing and suggested that as a very neutral nick, that makes it easy to establish trust early on. I haven't bothered with changing it lol.
By the way, how often does the list get updated?
I would've updated the file a while ago, but for some reason when I try to upload a file, it now says I'm not authorized. Bill (Str3razor) was the last to upload this file. Bill, I've updated my word file and it's ready to go. Do you want me to pm you and you can upload it?
I just made one: joshuacolgan
Hope this gets done quickly. An SRP member is bidding against me on a razor that I REALLY want... Not his fault if he still has the old list, but it's still inconvenient, especially since I wanted that one as my main shaver.
You could use a snipe program like the one at www.justsnipe.comQuote:

Thanks for the tip but I dont like to do it when I'm present at the end of the auction. Initially I put on a minor bid to mark my territory but since my name isn't on the list, there was no way for the other guy to know. In any case I still have a chance to pick it up. I'll keep you guys posted in any case.
