I just want to ask members opinion if price on this razor has any kind of limits?

Price rides on the wings of the hype.
That is good because this way we can buy other equally worthy razors for a lot less.
The only thing that limits the prices on eBay is anti-psychotic medication. Quantities seem to be running low amongst Filly purchasers...
Thank you, because I thought I am the one who is getting crazy.
I bought mine on eBay a couple of months ago and paid $370, I wondered then if I paid too much. I'm glad I bought it then as it is my favorite shaver :)
But, would you pay $610.00 for this razor?
I bought mine for $400 a couple months back, happy I did. If I didn't have one today, I would have gone $610. Why not, I have the money and want the razor.
No problem.
Heck, I would go higher even if needed be.
It has exactly one, which is its ability to shave. I have tried it, I liked it, but I can think of at least five other razors which work better for me. All of them are available as NOS from various sites, all of them are less than USD 200, and all of them have scales that look less like something dragged from a Spanish toy store. But, as they say, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, and if anyone is happy with his, that is truly fantastic. De gustibus and all that. ;)
Since we are talking Prices about an e-bay item let's move this thread into that forum...
The prices of Filly's have stayed in the high range for quite some time considering the seemingly endless supply from below the Equator...
But these are NOS razors so you need to compare them to new razors out there or at least that is what I do...
Damn, I should have asked a commision on each of the EPBD sold when I posted my review. :rofl2:
This is getting absurd. wow
I prefer my #14 Doble Temple honed by Sham over the #14 EPBD. It's double-plus wonderful, but I still prefer the Wusthof I bought from Sham.
Today I bought a #13 DT on the bay for $202 to round out my collection. Sorry to whomever I beat for that one, but I was willing to go to $250.
I guess I am part of the problem :)
That is quite a bit more than I paid for a lightly used Livi Takeda Damascus 6/8ths. And I would much rather have the Livi.
I do have a Barbas Duras, but it is a 13 and cost less than half of this 14. Plus you don't see a 13 Barbas Duras every day.
While the razor is no longer made, the demand seems out of proportion. The sellers are sly foxes, and I don't suppose we as a group have done anything to lessen demand.
But my razor buying days are over for a while. The HVAC unit in the house went south this last weekend! I won't be driving up the prices on anything for a bit.
What about prices for Filarmonica Medallon series?
I see them getting sold on EBay for around $500.00.
Are they better shavers then regular Filarmonica DT 13?
I guess it depends on how much you want a Filly! :)
+1 That is all there is to it really!
I'll bet that 50 bucks is all it would take to get a good shaver, perhaps even less.
My best Filly cost me half of the EPBD, but I still wanted the EPBD asap:)
My fear is that it's really gonna start to cost me a pretty penny when I start to look at the fine customs out there..
That $1450 Livi for instance..
RAD is fun:)
B, although I do agree they are beautiful, because of the craftsmanship, just looking at your list of shavers in your sig line, you sir will be hard pressed to find anything that will feel better on your face than what you already have...
Now granted it might look better in your hand while doing it :)
Too bad you're not closer to me, I could have given you a great deal on a new unit and could have taken that #13 of yours as partial trade:)
I have used a filly 14 and find that it is quite similar to a 7/8 Tuckmar round point I have, but I actually prefer the Tuckmar shave, and the scales are much nicer. Also, the price was about 1/10th the cost of a filly. I'm still looking to buy a vintage #13 or #14 when my Wade and Butcher collection is completed(this week most likely).
Yes, Gssixgun, it is not the hardware anymore, I fully believe that too.
It's the skills that need honing at this point!
I am just getting so into this straight shaving thing, and enjoy thoroughly the time spent with all the things about it.
SRP, honing, RAD, the shave and the pre/post procedures.
A nice hobby indeed.
The prices are absolutely sick. I was telling Rob (Maldon240) the other day that back in the mid 90's while on tour in Tenerife I saw Fillys, in all colors and sizes selling for $25 and under. I bought two and got rid of them after (never really got into him and I'm a Sheffield cat anyway.)
Yea, I had been watching that one from when it was going for under a hundred, then it started getting crazy. My question is this, Doesn't anyone know how to snipe? Entering bids so soon just jacks up the price. Good for whoever got it though. Better for whoever sold it.
To add, Im' glad I got mine before the company stopped making them. If I knew this would happen I would have gotten two—at least.
I bought this razor from one of the members of the SRP board in mint condition and shave ready for $350.00.
I shave with it yesterday first time and it was unbelievable great shave.
I have to admit I am fairly new to straight razor shaving, but I tried about 20 different straight razors before and never had such success.
The same razor in the same condition has just been sold on EBay for $415.00…
I'm not the only one then that enjoys all aspects of shaving with a "$30 razor" even more so than some of the pricier "eye candy" razors I own.
To those who are wondering, there are scores of razors that shave as good or even better than the most coveted razor du jour, the [INSERT BRAND HERE]. Scores. Those that know this are not likely to name such faves for this very reason, watching this recent Filarmonica craze.
Chris L
>>insert brand here<< Chris, let's throw in a "Master" here. I bought one a while ago for the tutti-frutti scales and when these things shoot off the charts, I'll be able to sell the naked blade for a small fortune, nyuk, nyuk, nyuk, and put the kitsch scales on a Dobl Temple.
Pardon me for a minute... ...sometimes these inspirations give me a bit of a headache and I just have to look off monitor for a moment. Much better, thanks.
