I havent ever really got anything from Ebay but I just tried. Is there a way for people to set it up so that if you out bid them it automatically out bids you right back???? Cuz I waited till like 2seconds before the action was up and right away it said i've been out bid by 50 cent...:confused::rant:

Could be what O/S said or... if I have a bid in from day one and it is higher than what is showing unless you outbid my high bid (you cannot see it) your bid will come back as "outbid" regardless of the time you put it in. Two seconds or two days.

You can also wait till the last few seconds and put a bid that is a few or more dollars higher and eBay will autobid for you until the end of the auction. if you win you pay w/e the winning bid was not the whole amount you posted.
Example , current bid $15, you bid 25, eBay places bids on your behalf and at the end of the auction winning bid is $19, you pay 19.

The exact suggestion is not "do NOT bid on ebay!!!!1!" but rather "Don't bid on ebay until you have the expertise to evaluate the items by yourself". I think six months of experience is recommended, but this is always individual. There's a thread called Ebay 101 by Joed that can act as a test. Worth to read otherwise too.Quote:

And not just razors - I don't know what you were looking at there, but the evaluating principle works well for other, less fickle, items too.
Ebay has a help page discussing automatic bidding. They mentioned the auto-bidding as mentioned by JimmyHAD. They also mentioned that if sniping (might not have used this term) occurs outside of Ebay equal to the bid of someone who bid within Ebay, the Ebay bid wins.
I think I remember that correctly.
Even a long time collector can mess up and buy junk if they are not careful. At least this old man has done so. Whether new at it or a seasoned veteran collector look at the photos carefully. If there are any questionable issues or some possible defect that isn't shown ask questions. Even then be aware that a lot of these sellers don't know anything about razors and may mislead with no intent to deceive. They just don't know what they are looking at. I've gotten some great razors on the bay when I paid attention but some real clunkers when I didn't. :p
I agree that one needs to be careful using auction sites. But you CAN find gems that you don't pay thru the nose to get IF YOU'RE CAREFUL and use some common sense.
Heres my finds (except for my grandfathers Brummel-Werk, Shumate and the new DOVO I purchased..) and they were NOT over a hundred bucks per razor.
I think I did fine - and you can too. Just use common sense and remember the saying "Caveat Emptur" which means "buyer beware"!!
