MASONIC STRAIGHT RAZOR FROM NOVELTY CUTLERY CO! - eBay (item 190402046601 end time Jun-12-10 09:12:35 PDT)

Very interesting item. I'm not sure how good the Novelty Cutlery Co. razors shave, but the scales are sure to spark some interest.

Thanks for the link! I had one Novelty Cutlery razor which had photos of scantily clad Victorian ladies inside the scales-same technique. It was a good shaver.

My first straight razor was an heirloom Novelty Cutlery. Once Glen hooked it up for me it shaved wonderfully -- now I have a nice collection so I only break that one out once per year.

Interestingly, I Googled the name on the handle, Fred E. Redhead. Partially because I'm always interested in that type of stuff, and partially because it almost sounds like a fake name.

Sure enough the archives check out. You can go to the La Crosse Public Library's database here:
La Crosse Public Library: Books & A Whole Lot More!

Search for Fred Redhead, and you'll find that his obituary was listed in the La Crosse Tribune on page 1, July 21st 1943. That razor is already out of my price range, but if I had something like that I'd be tempted to seek out living relatives to correspond with.
