Third time for a coti that sold for over $100 twice ?

When it comes to coticules I don't miss much that comes up on USA ebay. This piece here is too unique to be mistaken and I know that this is at least the third time it has been listed. It is Item number:110546127717 if the link doesn't work. I'm sure many of us are familiar with this seller. Her auctions of her late father's barber shop stuff have been going on for a long time and every one of the many stones she has listed are characterized as being,"my fathers finest combination hone for use in his barbershop. He had this one wrapped in a barber towel in his sanitizer cabinet."

The thing that gets me about this hone is that I watched it sell for over $100.00 at least twice if not three times. So assuming the auctions were legit and not shill bidders the buyers must have been dissatisfied and returned the stone. While it is interesting to a coticule collector because of the mix of yellow/blue there just isn't enough yellow to make a viable hone IMO. Add to that it is too small. Odd that it keeps coming up when it has been sold more than once though for prices in excess of it's worth though. At least odd IMHO. Value is, of course, in the eye of the beholder.

Maybe she had a few non-payers... I know what you mean about "how much" stuff her late father had...

Very possible and I didn't even think of that. TBH, I wouldn't mind having that little chunk of rock just for the unique mix but I wouldn't go over $50 for it. Obviously that doesn't mean it wouldn't be worth more to some other haddict out there. :boohoo:

I think it was pretty well established in another thread that this is NOT an Escher, despite the appearance. Indeed, it looks to me like a deliberate mimic of the Escher label, which is a huge warning sign for me. But then again, the seller advertised it as an Escher and someone paid over $375 for it, so maybe others are better informed about this one than I am.

Most likely someone bought and return the stone. i have seen it twice sold. In fact there is not much coticule left.

When I checked their feedback.. both items are older than 90 days but both left positive feedback. I also noticed that this seller has multiple listing over the past 5 months that look the same so who knows maybe they are just "lucky" in finding some very similar stones.

Its probably a good finisher, but not as good as the gray or greens.

Labels on eschers don't fold over the sides. Why one someone buy this after seeing that huge difference in the way the stones are labeled??

I have Eschers that are bona fide and I've seen others on which the ends fold over the sides. I've never seen one in which the label didn't at least come to the edges of the stone all the way round. Never seen one where the label folded over the sides. I've been told by a knowledgeable Escher collector that the ones in which the label goes over the ends are older stones.

That's interesting, I have never seen that before and when I saw this on ebay I was certain is was fake. Thanks for the pics in the other thread showing the escher with the folded label.

Funny thing is I'm really tempted to go for the coticule because it is so unusual. I know it is too small and too much bbw to be worth much but it demonstrates the layers really well. Here is one that Jasper Kade sold awhile ago. If it had just been the little slurry stone with all of the manganese I would have jumped on it like a kangaroo but I didn't want the larger stone too. Only a true haddict could understand. :boohoo:

OK, I can definitely relate to that. There's been a lot of belt tightening at my house lately too. Of course, I just had to buy that new Baldor. The Shopsmith three wheeled buffer experiment had gone on long enough and I'm going to have to start unloading some razors. Maybe even a few hones. I have a few (ahem) duplicates of barber hones I could let go.

That was a pretty coticule pair though. The little one looked amazing but the bigger one looked pretty good too. Of course, I like all coticules. They deserve to be appreciated.

Back to the point of the stone in question. Recently I have won an item for very favourable price. Paid by paypal straight away just to find few hours later that money were returned with excusing email folloving it that the item got misposted to someone else. I went to give a negative feedback and whoops there was no possibility to give any feedback. The item was cancelled and disapeared from my account. Perhaps there is a loophole in the ebay system which is being exploited by people. Your item did not make enough money just return the money and go again. Who knows.

Yup, I had that same thing happen. Over a year ago I won a lot of about 20 razors that included a few Dubl Ducks and couple of big W&Bs and some others that all seemed to be in pretty good condition. I think my winning bid was around $175 and I was very happy with that price. I paid immediately and payment was returned that same day. The seller claimed that she had forgotten the package on the roof of her car on her way to the post office.

Now, I had a suspicion that she was scamming me so I told her to just tell me how much she wanted for the lot. She of course took great offense at this but I repeated my offer. She actually threatened to report me to eBay even though by that time she already had re-listed the same damn razors individually! Of course, I reported her to eBay and, of course, was told there was nothing they could do since she had refunded my money. I figure someone contacted her after the auction close and told her the value of the lot so she decided to capitalize on it.

What a skank!
