Ebay experiment :)

I wanted to sell a restored razor in the classifieds, with a price that I had deemed fair. I double checked the price with someone who sells more razors, because it was ages since I sold a razor and I had no idea about what constitues a fair price for such blades.

It didn't sell so it made me wonder what I should have asked. Rather than change the price again until it sold, I decided to take a gamble and listed it on ebay for 99 ct. No reserve. I am curious about whether I will actually make a profit, or whether it will be a loss.

As I said it is a gamble, but I figured it would be fun to see what happens :) It is an market experiment.

Those scales look awesome. To Bknesal, the scales are made from ash wood.

I list all my auctions for 99c no reserve and I find that I always end up getting more than I expect or would have priced on classifieds. For this reason, I don't use classifieds. :)

Regardless, if you make a habit of this, do yourself a favor and take 10+ high res pics of every razor you list. your wallet will thank you! E-bay is a lot about emotions, and people becoming obsessed with an item. If your pictures make the item look distant and small, people won't become attached to them as easily.

I think this is a social experiment. That razor isn't yours at all; you simply want to see if you can increase the bidding by throwing your name behind it.:rofl2:

But seriously, its a very nice razor....love the barber's notch cutout on the scales.

Ebay is all about emotions and people don't like to lose to others. I have seen some that were buy it Now and then went to auction format and they ended up closing at a final price that was 2x the Buy it Now price. That doesn't make sense. But people don't think logically when the countdown is on and the auction is going to close...

Actually, when HNSB asked about the final price and I clicked the link, I initially was disappointed for you; and was relieved to find it had two days left!

Ok it sold for 109.50$
Now I am a happy camper. Imo it didn't got overpriced due to bidding madness, and this is a fair price for both parties.

I have downloaded the bidding history and I will put it in excel and figure out the most useful way to make a trendline from which I can get some data. When that is done I'll post the results here with my interpretation.

I plan on repeating this experiment a couple times over the next month(s) and update my excel file each time. It'll be interesting to see if there are repetitive patterns to discern.
