I bought an unused Muller Thuringian for $85 from a member here a couple of years ago. Mine is an excellent hone, but I don't really like the look of that one. I know individual stones can vary, but that one doesn't look right and I'm not thrilled about the "sparkles" described as being visible in the hone.
Colors on those pictures completely wrong. Stone itself does looks like Miller Thuringian. Real color should be like this. And yes, "sparkles" it is piryt

Hones like this were sold for some time via manufactum.de
A german "honemeister" compared one to a vintage thuringian (he even compared microscopic slurry pictures) and stated, that they work exactly the same and they were sold out like immediately. I don´t have one, by the way. There are still new Müller hones available with that sticker, but I´ve heard that they look not as dark as the ones from manufactum and are said to be not as good as the manufactum ones, although still good. So, it could be something…
He stated also, that pyrit is nothing you have to care about. His stone had pyrit inclusions, too. It´s softer than steel.

The "Reep away oil" stones are € 26,50 (20 x 5 cm) at a straight razor webshop. I haven't tried one so I don't know what to expect from them.
I think calling these Escher type stones is wrong, not the same type of stones as Eschers and vintage Thuringians.

I have used quite a few thuringians and some Eschers with the small sparkly inclusions - they have never affected honing in my experience.

That's interesting, Neil, I didn't know there was a difference between new and old boxes.
