I've seen them before , and I believe they are genuine . I don't think too many of them were made , because they must have been a real PITA to shave with . Very cool looking , though .
Yes its a butterfly razor actually its Papillion french for buterfly.
check out this link awsome stuff!! Papillon
I've seen them a couple of times. Imo it is more of a novelty item because the balance would suck.
I can't really think of a reason why you'd use this instead of 2 single razors, back in the day.
Thems those expert razors for those of you that think you be real shave devils. You shave with both at the same time cutting the time in half. You can do multiple strokes at the same time.:rofl2:
I too have been curious about what those were.
When it rains it pours I guess, here's another one I just found, this time from Germany: Straight Razor Rasiermesser - Doppelklinge Horn - Rarität von ca. 1800 - 1850 ! | eBay
I picked up one a few weeks ago. I've only ever seen them from French makers. They were known as Papillion or butterfly razors.
I´ve heard those were made as travel Razors. Although I don´t really see how an extra pair of scales makes my back break when I travel. Or was it due to the expence of ivory…?
Note the missing tail on both of them. The ones I´ve seen before had none, as well.
tok
I found one!!
Papillion or Butterfly Straight razor | eBay
are this things really made for shaving?
can I take them apart and try to re scale them as 2 different razors??
