How did that lowlife ever get a 99.2% rating?!
I might be a newbie at this straight razor lark, but I reckon that might take a bit of honing out!
Gareth
Uhmmmmmm yeah if rats at the landfill have a Norton lying around.
Oh come on...That's nothing more than a "Special Edition" razor designed to shave around large moles. :roflmao
Steer clear of that one.
Ray
All I can say is WOW. That guy must be very special.
Not to be difficult (and it's not like I'm in charge of anything anyway :D), but this thread belongs on the auctions forum.
I've been looking for a razor with a built-in bottle opener, for those weekend shaves with a bottle of microbrew by my side.
They just don't make them like that anymore! Doesn't hardly look used to me.
Done. And you're not being difficult, that's the way it's supposed to be.Quote:

Don't worry Gareth, you'll only be shunned by the SRP community 'till the end of days and no offspring of our loins will be given the name Gareth in memory of Gareth the Misposter :D It's all good. Even more seasoned members mispost from time to time and it should become more frequent with the new forums added. In any case there are plenty of people who will make the correction, so there's no harm done.
I sent my thought to the seller:
RTQuote:
If this razor is used but not abused, can you tell me where the rest of the blade is? This is junk. The scales might be usable, but the blade is garbage. You should be ashamed of yourself for advertising something like this. In fact, you should be banned from selling.
Well, the seller got back to me on this and says it is a "corn" razor.
RT
And he threatened with a complaint. I sent my reply:
Quote:
You may wish to withdraw the complaint. This notch on the blade is too irregular to be a design feature. In addition to that the "corn notch" cannot be sharpened by any means available. You are obviously trying to pass off damaged goods as a working blade. I AM a user and collector, so if you wish to report me as well, I'll be glad to discuss this with the e-bay staff. If I were you, I'd just sell this as a damaged collectors item. That way you will maintain a decent level of trust with your current and potential customers.
He said that he had filed a complaint on me as well. Okay, let him file.
RT
That was the complaint I referred to. However, I'd LOVE for him to file one against me. People like him undermine e-bay's credibility. What a tool.
I got a reply from him.. Kinda cute:
I don't know who he sold it to as the auction has ended and there are 0 bids. Maybe to the Martians whose signal his cheese-hat is picking up. If he keeps reporting people like this, noone will take him seriously when he comes across his soul-mate.Quote:
THANKFULLY IT HAS SOLD , KNOW IT ALL'S LIKE YOU AND THIS OTHER POLICE OFFICER OF THE SYBER SPACE SERVE A PURPOSE, A GOOD LAUGH , OH I REPORTED YOU AS REQUESTED AS A STALKER,,,
I can see the headlines now, straight razor newbie gets moderator thrown off eBay!
I've caused a bit of fuss with my second thread on SRP haven't I?
Gareth
They are not idiots to throw me out because I tried to honestly educate a seller who tried to sell inferior product and pass the defect off as a design feature. Sellers with a heck of a lot more muscle than him gave me very positive ratings, which are at 100% positive now, so they know I'm a good customer. If he reports everyone who complains about his b.s., then they must be getting tired of his complaints by now.
The tool even posted your question on the listing page: :roflmaoQuote:

A: ANSWER' APPARENTLY YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS TYPE OF RAZOR BEFORE, OBVIOUSLY YOUR NOT A TRUE COLLECTOR OF THE MANY DIFFERENT -TYPE'S- OF RAZOR'S THAT ARE OUT THERE, IN THE COLLECTION I'M SELLING THERE ARE 57 RAZOR'S, AND IN THIS COLLECTION THERE ARE 7 RAZOR'S EXACTLY LIKE THIS ONE ,, WITH A NOCK / NOTCH ON THE BLADE, I;M TOLD IT IS FOR TRIMING CORN'S, --- WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN , YOU SHOULD HAVE ALL THE FACT'S BEFORE PLAYING EBAY POLICE , I'M NOT ASHAMED NOR IS THIS RAZOR GARBAGE, I HAVE FILED A COMPLANT ON YOU -- PLEASE REFER TO THE ITEM # NUMBER AND TODAY'S DATE WHEN THEY CONTACT YOU,
That's why I also sent him a msg. Corn razor my foot. Had this guy been smart/educated enough to be a lawyer, he wouldn't have been chasing after ambulances.. He'd be at the accident scenes before them.
Edit: I don't think that every laywer is an ambulance-chaser. Actually most of the lawyers that I've come across were very honest and principled guys. However, this guy has the right moral fiber for this area of legal practice
did he admit that he sold it already by using ebay's message system? because if he did, then they got it on record and it's illegal to sell goods you're posting on ebay through other means thereby bypassing their system (kills their comission). If he did, just report that to ebay and they should kick him out.
He just said it was sold. In any case I'm saving the msgs.
I'm usually the one sending nasty-grams. You guys beat me to it. :D I took a different approach and on 10/08, I sent him the following message to his regular email that he had posted. I have not heard anything back. I wonder if he thinks he still has a corn razor????????
Howdy Harold...
Please excuse my intrusion for saying something that doesn't directly involve me. I am only saying something because I think you are a man of integrity, but also someone who has been misled. I hate to see good people have their honesty questioned because of misinformation they have received.
You recently had a razor on eBay. The auction was the one with the circular piece missing in the blade. I saw that the comment made about it was upsetting to you because of the way you answered the person. I understand why you said what you did. I get my feathers ruffled when someone challenges my honesty too.
It is with respect to your honesty that I must tell you that you are mistaken about this razor. It is not a corn razor. If you go to the following ebay link and look at the bottom razor, you will see what a corn razor looks like.

</B>My name is Bill Ellis. I make custom knives, restore straight razors and sell them, and have written a book on how to do the work. This is my site:
www.billysblades.com
I have also written reviews for ebay regarding straight razors. This is the ebay link:

So that you know, the razor you had on ebay has been damaged. Most probably it was dropped or bumped the faucet in the sink and was chipped. The steel in these razors is very thin and very hard and they can break easily. If you see any cut-out like this on any blade no matter how big or small, it is broken. Chips like this are always damage, not an intentional manufacturing characteristic. The blade is worthless as a shaving instrument from then on. The scales (handles) may have value, but the blade doesn't. The person who told you this was a corn razor is wrong.
It seems to me that you are honest and would not intentionally mislead anyone. I would hate to see your reputation questioned because you thought you were right. Unfortunately, there are a lot of lousy sellers these days on ebay. And, even worse, a lot of them are selling straight razors and lying about them to make sales to those who do not know about them.
I hope I have not offended you with this information...
best regards and happy trails...
Bill
Nice email. But in there what I found most informative was your links on your "how to" guides on buying. I'm reading them now. Good information!
I think it's actually pretty amusing... Obviously, since he has a lot of 57 razors to sell, /he/ is an expert and you don't know what you're talking about. And someone told him it was a corn razor, so it must be so.
A fine example of ebay caveat emptor.
Yes, exactly. What you said. Empty Caviar
Not only that, but ya gotta watch out who ya buy from... :roflmaoQuote:

Bill,
I'm part way through your story of the three razors from loybeloit59. Don't tell me how it ends.
Yes, it's Latin for, "don't buy a pig in a poke." :)Quote:
