NOS? Are you kidding me??

This is a rant but I will not post names.
I recently purchased two"NOS" from a guy in Italy. took over a month to get here and then when they do, obviously they were not the same razor in the pics. Plus one had been clearlyrepinedd at the front. Both horribly warped scales also. WTF??? Do people actually keep these and not send back? Immediatelyy sent an email to him (which I have not heard back from so now I have to be mean and start a ebay resolution). Just kills me that there are unscrupulous sellers out there. sad but true fact of life.

Well, I am sorry to hear of that experience but perhaps you are doing everyone a favour by escalating it up to an ebay resolution. Although I am not sure what happens when you win one of these things....will the seller get a "black mark" against their name or anything like that?

Sorry to hear. That term 'NOS' is being bandied about all too often of late. Hope the seller resolves!

Yup it sucks but I'm sure it will work out in the end. I also agree NOS is being thrown around a bunch lately incorectly. People see $$ signs and don't care.

It's really important that everyone realize NOS means never sold retail before, nothing more and nothing less. I know many think it means pristine and just like brand new and often times that is how it is but sometimes NOS mdse is in terrible shape. I see that a lot in watch collecting seeing watches that were never sold that were used as loaners in a shop and are terribly used and abused.

NOS. Thought that it means: "New Old Stock". Wikipedia. Does EBay have their own listing of Abbreviations?
Everything that I've read refers to NOS being New but out dated.

I saw a Filarmonica on e-bay listed as NOS, I could tell by the pictures it was well used. It had hone wear on it and patina or pitting I couldn't tell from the picks. Some people just slap that tag on without knowing what it means I think! Douches!

I believe Nelson's definition is the only technically correct one, but nos can mean different things to different people. I started a thread about it a ways back, encouraging people to share what nos means to them. The responses were interesting.

Yup. NOS could accurately describe a rusted out piece of garbage.

It sounds like you got a bait and switch from the seller. I hope you get your money back.

We're talking about ebay , here . Some of these sellers might think (or at least tell you) NOS means "Now On Sale" :D . Always look at the pics , and go by what you see , as well as what you don't see . If the razor doesn't match the pics , and the seller won't respond in a timely manner , you should get ebay , and pay pal involved .

I'm afraid TheBigSpender and HNSB are correct: New Old Stock ("NOS") is subject to a wide interpretation. I have seen unused razors described as 'NOS' with rust and or tarnish and warped scales. I have also seen pristine razors with this description in the same condition as brand new ones with the original anti-rust paper intact with remnants of the oil applied at the factory all those years ago.

If you are buying from the bay, the maxim of 'caveat emptor' applies. Buyer beware! It is for you to carry out due diligence and that's the way it is.

Why not post the sellers name here with the pics? Let everyone here make their own decision whether or not to do business with the seller. I'd like to know the sellers name so I know who to avoid.

I think that would be against SRP rules to post the name. I will post pics after the holiday.
