i'll begin by saying i KNOW the amount of work that goes into re-scaling a razor and making scales from a plank or wood...BUT SERIOUSLY $105 for a $5 razor that looks like the shoulder is still gonna make it un-honable.......HERE.....i wish there was a way to warn ppl what they were really getting!

People will pay money for crap. Even if its gold plated. There are tons of idiots out there in this world who would snap at the chance of getting a "custom" razor for cheap. Sad part is they'll buy it and join here and ask if what they have is a good deal. Ive heard great things about Gold Dollars as long as you put a fresh hone to them since the factory edge is terrible.
Worry not what the idiots do, just let them be idiots.
That is kind of shady. No where does it mention "Gold Dollar" in the ad, but lists Dovo as a term in the short description?

its not very nice to say something like that. Most people get the idea of straight shaving from a movie, father, friend ect. And when they look into getting one sometimes they may not do enough research. I think calling them idiots is a huge overstatement. perhaps they just need to be reminded to do some more research? anyways it was just my thoughts...I think it's sad that these people get ripped off when they want to enter the world of such a respected art.Quote:

ebay wont do a thing about it...if you read carefully, it says right before dovo, cmpr. which stands for comparable...so really its not false advertising at all..he's just saying its comparable to dovo, not that it is a dovo. Of course we all know that it would come no where close to a dovo.Quote:

The pictures are a portion of the description, and I can clearly make out the "Gold Dollar" and "China" from them. Putting Dovo in the description seems to be a tricksy little artifice to make the ad show up in a search for "dovo."

He has the nerve to talk about unscrupulous sellers.
It's certainly simply misleading, bordering on false representation--and, it's plain wrong. In addition, the price isn't even "cmpr" to a starter Dovo; the "Finest in Gentleman's Wet Shaving" has a brand new Dovo for over twenty dollars less!
*ponders* If nobody is misled, is it misleading?
There's no denying you can get those blades to shave well, but selling them for that price is criminal. For $105, I could buy a fourteen of those, plus all new scale material, mod them and make myself a great two week set.

Maybe the price is because of the "semi-custom cocobolo scales," that and apparently it has been Truly Honed(TM)-whatever that means.:thinking:
I just called King's X on a seller.
He claimed he was selling a W&B Bow. I asked him where the Bow was and where the Wade & Butcher was. The Razor said little more than Sheffield.
His answer.....on the box.
I really don't have that much of a problem with this. Is the seller taking advantage of people? Of course he is but he's doing it within the rules of the system. We live in a time where any information you could possibly need to make an informed purchase is out there and can be found within a matter of seconds. I won't go so far as to call the impulsive buyers idiots, but just 10 seconds of research would tell you that there are much better ways to spend your money getting into straight shaving. Just my opinion.
There's even worse. Every day I see bids going on Kriegar or Pakistani razors on flea-bay.
Although I don't agree with the price, I agree with Max. I was one of the foolish ones when I started a few years ago and purchased a Kreigar, or something on part with that. I use it to open boxes, but it will never get near my face. I would rather have paid too much for a useable razor than what I did on the piece of junk I ended up getting. Fortunately for me, I read the information on here just before trying to use it. I believe that was just before I joined here.Quote:

I have both, a honed GD and a Dovo. And you're right, it's not even close. You can shave with the GD, but I'd rather not.Quote:

Looks like ebay did remove the listing, so I don't know what happened, but judging from the comments in this thread I suspect it belonged to one of the most dishonest people we've met in the straight shaving community.
And if he omitted to mention the actual brand of the razor, but didn't omit to use a famous brand creating a misleading listing that is actually against ebay's rules. Sometimes they won't do anything, sometimes they would. Nothing wrong with registering a report.
The false Bow razor I talked about, auction just ended.
