Bizarre Joseph Rogers Frameback
I really hope that whoever won this is here on the forum, because I really, really want to see it.
The auction pictures are poor enough that I really can't tell much about it other than it's really weird.

Beautiful lines on that blade... but yeah... weird is a good word for it

I kinda lie in that I can't tell much about it other than it's weird. It's an 1850's Joseph Rodgers frameback, the blade has an etch that says DAMASCUS STEEL, the tang reads JOSEPH RODGERS, CUTLERS TO THEIR MAJESTIES etc, there is significant rusting around the frame and quite a lot of hone wear. Enough so that I was thinking about methods of just flat-out replacing the frame if I got it. But MAN I wanted that! I've never seen that kind of a vulture-neck tang before.

Thanked: 1936I too was watching it, but it went for about 2-3x more than my "interest".

I was tempted but as I'm going through a big downsizing excersise I decided to pass. It's the only one like that I've ever seen though.

There were clearly some folks who wanted it a bunch. My high bid was $53, and four more snipes came above that.
I knew it was a helluva lot to pay for a blade that was almost certainly trashed, but oddities are kind of my thing.
I'm sorry to hear about that, John. But you can be certain that Dahlgren wedge is going to someone who'll really appreciate it.
