There appears to be nothing wrong with it, it's a nice hone. It's like a lot of listings, the battle will take place in the last 15 seconds of the closing.
Locked ... and loaded.
JK, people do most of their bidding in the last seconds of an auction.
eBay is an odd old place.
I'd be in it too, but I have enough barber hones for now. You can bet there are several, watching that bid.
I actually don't like barber hones all that much. I just got rid of my last one, a koenig.
I find them odd, just my feel on them. I can see the attraction though for those who prefer
a quicker touch up.
I rarely use them, I collect them. I have a hone/strop in my travel bag & an old Swaty that finishes off my axe, knives & my daily carry knife. Other than that , they are investments for my grandkids someday.
Ebay is indeed an odd place. There are auctions that, for whatever reason, no one bids on and other auctions that create a bidding war. It takes time and patience, but I seek out auctions that end with below market value. I never get involved in a last second bidding frenzy. Auctions that end at non peak times, auctions with fuzzy pictures, auctions with misspelled or unidentified items all work in my favor.
3 bids - went for $24...
The winner got a good deal.
the one thing wrong with it is the fact it's not a norton brand hone.
When I get back into the barber hones, I'm gonna have to keep my eye out for you. :jedi:
This is true i got a unmarked german stone off ebay on day taking a chance on horrible photos. The size of the wonderful rock is 7by2by1. i paid 4.99 to ship it to me
and my bid was 2.99. It a nice fine stone to finish a razor. I do have some a bit finer. Even that escher that end the other night it seemed to be dirt cheap for a
escher. But i personally still would not pay that much. A good stone with out the label would be just as good as a label one. I kind of like using ebay as a means to gamable.
Some people i work with are stupid with betting insane money on the sports games. Once of the things this guy i work with today who won his long shot bet.
was like imagine if i was rich and bet a 1000 bucks how much money i would have got. I was like dude you once flaw with that kind of logic is a really rich money wouldn't piss it away gambling the football games. but i am right it's a horrible idea. Much better to have nice stuff to use to end up getting a nice shave.
Plus, you have an investment. There will always be someone who will buy that stone from you. I don't see a loss of it's value.
that's the addictive part of it. It's like just think in a stronger market the value would be higher.
and i already gain some on total value. Plus hunting and getting mustly good stuff dirt cheap gives
me nice rocks to use. They a better investement then straights due to we buy sometimes just cause it was a good deal.
the next guy is going to want a good deal. But with rocks every ones wants nice rocks us razor folks and the people who sharpen knives or axes.
It's a bigger pool of folks in the market to buy. Though only a metal file is needed to get a good edge on a axe to spit wood.
I'm not sure about rocks being a better investment than straights. :hmmm:
In some individual cases yes, but I think that R.A.D. rules over H.A.D.
There are more razor collectors than stone collectotrs, I feel. Thus higher demand, higher prices.
I'm sure there are many wetshavers with 20+ straights & only using 1/2 dozen stones to maintain them.
Why use a half dozen stones when you can pick from one of 85 stones.
Though cann't wait for my Cf to get to me that's coming from England.
plus i picked up 6 other nice stones from the same seller.
I guess ya might be right on that. I am more of a stone collector then anything else.
My De razors and straights just a tool to get a nice shave. I would have to count my razors to know how many i have.
but I have at least to gilltette fatboys with the case.
