It's Raining Reapers

Wow, I don't get to see a whole lot of Dubl Duck Grim reapers on ebay
in fact I've only seen a handful the past few years.
But in the last 2 weeks , there have been a total of 3 on ebay
As soon as bidding on one ends another takes it's place
this latest one Item # 121031317054 just jumped to $400 in a couple of Mins

Folks are definitely cashing in on the Reapers these days.

What I haven't seen is a DD Vesuvius reaper that the guys were talking about in the last reaper madness thread but I'm pretty sure it's going to pop up pretty soon..

And that one in bad shape warped scales, blade is very uneven,hone wear.

Its how it works. I do it too. A razor sells for ridiculously high prices, and it wont take long before somebody else says "I have one of those, I want to see that kind of cash too!"
Of course, the huge prices were caused by that first item being in amazing condition, so the next few razors will slowly drop in value, until they settle back to a more reasonable sum, and folks get to "ho-huming" until the next unusual razor shows up! The worst (from a sellers standpoint, best for a buyer) is when 3 or 4 of them all show up at near the same time. Every now and then you can get a great razor because the other guys are saving up the big bucks for that NOS item, and you can steal the gently used version for a comparative song without the competition! :y

I saw that $400.00 reaper. It's in really, really, really, bad shape.
I'd keep waiting. The blade is terrible, it's rusted, the toe is a lot smaller than the heel, it looks about 4/8th, if that. The scales are warped, and I'm sure if I got a closer look at the blade, I'd be even more disgusted. I wouldn't give more than $20.00.

Seriously, Don't waste your money on that one. Just my opinion.

Yea I'd have to agree that out of the 3 reapers that have been on ebay recently, this one is by far the worse.
The other that was sold today went for around $500 .. the scales on that one was quite nice
but yes the first one was in very nice shape . Much better than I've seen in the past.

If I recall correctly, the first one (that sold for $922) had chipped scales (near where the toe meets the scale). That was the biggest thing that I saw and I stopped looking other than to just follow the bidding out of curiosity.

Actually two Dubl Duck Vesuvius sold in October, for about 300. Do a search on completed items, and they are 10 times better shape then that reaper!

I've known carpenters and ironworkers who put notches in their tools to personalize them and to be able to ID them in case of any misunderstanding. Than there were the gunfighters of the old west who reputedly put notches in their gun grips. One for each man they dispatched. If those notches were put there deliberately I hope it was for ID purposes and not to commemorate victims. :)

However this reaper with the 3 notches is not the one I was talking about.
There was a reaper that just went for $500 today , i don't have the link but I'm sure someone here knows which one I'm talking about ..

That one had really nice scales ,,, and it was notchless

Who knows Jimmy maybe that razor belonged to the REAL Grim Reaper and he's gonna be upset if someone stole it. Maybe each notch represents 1 Billion Served like Mc Donalds.

Steep but not as steep as the first one

I see there is yet another on ebay, but even to a newbie the blade looks to be in serious need of attention. I'm sure one of you experienced folks could help turn it around but I will just keep watching the listing out of curiosity! After watching a couple of these go on ebay I think my wife would also know to snatch up a reaper in a flea market! The 922$ caught her attention and she really doesn't care for my new hobby!

The first time I ever saw one was in the '80s at a friends barber shop in NJ. He also collected straight razors. The blade was shot and I looked at the scales and wondered whatever possessed them to have a representation of the 'grim reaper' ..... i.e. death ..... decorating the scales. I still scratch my head about that ?
