See heres a item that missed labeled as a belgian Coticule but it's from arkansas.
I would think its a nice beveling setting peice of washita.
The bid is allready more then what i normally pay for that stuff total.
on the ebay market place with no labels. So i do think the bidding is higher
due to the miss labeling please folks don't fall for their tickery.

I was just going to start a thread on this seller. He has always listed hones as coticules, no matter what they actually are. I have sent him messages, but he doesn't reply. I have decided to report him for fraudulent listings to ebay.
I have found this one in the list of sold items for that seller.

You are assuming the seller knows anything about honing stones. She is probably someone who just sells what she can get and she heard the word coticule and calls everything a coticule.
A seller doesn't have to answer questions or respond to comments.
In the end the market will sort it out. If someone buys it as a coticule and it's not they can get their money back.
This isn't a rare occurrence for this seller. Every hone that she has listed has been described as a coticule. She lucked out once, and actually sold a coticule that was properly described, but every stone she has ever listed has been described as a coticule.
I have sent her messages and informed her on what she actually had, she ignores them. To me, thats a dishonest seller.
The odd part is some of the hones she sold were obviously not coticules, they sold for $$$, and she had positive feedback for them.

They once sold a surgical black arkansas stone labeled as that.
for 50 bucks. cut of a good sized.

Yep, Just like Rob said. Whoever it is, they always get good feedback. But I do get annoyed by it pretty regularly as well. :p
To play devils advocate: The word coticule just means whetstone right? lol. So...Every stone out there is a coticule, in Belgian. :p I don't know the language but I think I remember that from back when I loved them, oh so many weeks ago. haha!

I do agree w/ spendur in the fact that a lot of people on there just buy up as much old looking stuff, not knowing what it is and try to sell it for whatever they think it might be to increase their profit. However, knowing and not knowing aside. As a responsible seller it's YOUR responsibility to know what you have so that you aren't ripping people off, accident or not. Most likely these people buying these things don't have a clue what they are either, just read the name and jumped (that's their fault as well). If it happens once by mistake then I can see that, but happening multiple times is fraudulant and you should be reported and have your account shut down. Honestly, that's the primary reason I have grown tired of buying anything there. I have had two blades described as good condition, and the pics reflect that, and once the razor is in hand it's obvious they were warped, and any "lay man" could look at the blade in their hand and see there was a problem w/ it, contacted the seller, no reply, taking it to ebay and paypal and reporting him.
The seller is Todd Hughes. He's a flea market flipper and a blacksmith (he actually can do some very nice blacksmith work, but I guess he chooses not to any longer).
I doubt he knows anything about shaving, I don't remember him ever mentioning anything about shaving (he used to frequent woodworking boards), but he probably has found that shavers will pay more for stones than anyone else, even when they're mislabeled. I used to get into arguments with him a lot, and he's an alright guy (doesn't excuse the mislabeling, though). AT one point, I made a crack at him, and he smithed me a beautiful brass cross pein hammer (I can't remember what he was proving to me, but he definitely proved he's got some old-school toolmaking hand skills), but he shaped the handle like a weiner, anatomically correct and all, and refused to take any money for it. He's definitely a different kind of guy. I gave it to a woodworking club so they could use it for entertainment, but I'd have kept it if it had a handle I wouldn't have to explain every time someone saw it.
That stone looks dead on like a vintage washita stone (the good kind, not the kind of washita stones that are sold as washita today). I guess nobody is buying them for tools. I'm pretty sure he knows what that one is. If they have pike labels, they bring a lot. If they have no labels, they seem to bring almost nothing (got a woodworker's delight boxed and labeled stone for $14 a couple of weeks ago).
Anyway, address your emails as "hey todd" and maybe he'll pay attention.

About the US coticule.
That type of "keyword spamming" ticks me off. The obvious intent is to try to get more $$ by placing incorrect keywords in the auctioin listing. I mean, how could you possibly list every hone you sell as a coticule and not think they are different rocks. Again, misleading and done purely for profit (possibly at the expense of those who are not knowledgable about such things).
Yeah the seller is using 'coticule' because he saw some go for high dollars . Trying to get ebay to pay any attention and discipline the guy is like beating a dead horse .... pun intended ......:deadhorse:.... :rofl2:
Also the ubiquitous "Coticule? Escher? Charnley? Not sure what this rock is but I'll make sure it shows up in all the searches" listing.
