Looks like this may be an interesting auction! Wished I had the money to play this one. Crap!
Good luck.
Wow!!
A seven day set you say!
That is truly amazing,...Wouldn't it be nice?
Thanks for sharing that Badgister - that's a gorgeous set.
If nothing else, the price it goes for will put my recent RAD lapses into perspective, and I'll feel much better about the world. :w
What a nice 7 day set and in a blade style that I like too. Is it just me or are the blades double ground? Thanks for sharing.
Bob
It's a nice looking set!! Wish I may, wish I might...have that set I see tonight!!! Ain't gonna happen though!!! :boohoo:
Just for some more eye candy here's a set still in our classifieds....... Complete NOS G.Wostenholm & Sons (AMAZING!!) - Straight Razor Place Classifieds

I suspect whoever wins this auction will likely never actually hone or shave with these beauties? Am I correct?
I would hone and shave with them since I am not a collector, but that is just me. Beautiful set. The box is even in really great shape. That is a set that was well taken care of. Am I the only person that noticed that they were in the right order, Sunday to Saturday. I don't think I have ever seen a set in the right order. Not that it actually matters though.
Look beyond the Blades Guys,The wood (coromandel) used to construct the box is officially extinct.
Been packing this pce around for 30 years, cannot bring myself to do anything with it:(

nice ,wish i had the money.
Are many woods that no longer exsist, are many woods we think are common today that can no longer be imported.
I have seen the cost of exotics triple in the past year.
4 mos. ago african blackwood was $18 a stick (2x2x12) today it is $38 w'sale. all the ebonys are off the charts as are the dalbergias.
Have been on a wood buying binge for the past few yrs,but when it is gone,it is gone forever.
Going to bight the bullit and make a Coromandel Brush handle later today, will be a small one:)
That beautiful wood just beckons to be turned into a beautiful brush handle or razor scales. I say go for it!
Jesus Christ...
I'm sorry it went deeper than my pockets, although I didn't have much of a chance, I really wanted that box, the razors were simply going to be a bonus.
It sold for less than I expected it go for.
Sets tend to go for a lot of money only if they are new from TI or Dovo where the high prices are set by the manufacturer. With vintage razors all the cheapos decrease the value of the gems as well.
But, I think the biggest factor is that people shopping on ebay tend to put much higher premium on their money than on their time.
BTW that box looks so familiar - I have one for a 7-day rodgerses with ivory tangs and scales that had the exact same design down to the engraving plaque - don't remember the wood pattern but seemed similar.
can you post a pic of the box?
I thought it would go double what it did. I guess there is something to be said for saving up just incase something good comes along. When I saw that and knew I had blown most of my budget already, I also knew I wouldn't last until the end, close but not quite. I hope they went to someone really nice that will love them and perhaps show them, maybe even in someones law office.
I have. However my struggle with that set is, they are NOS and I HAVE to shave with them. It's part of my compulsive behavior. Not sure if that would be a wise choice for me or not. I look at them once a week most of the time. Seven day set in gorgeous boxes. It's one of those things.
I couldn't agree more - hence the "very small part" I attributed to woodworkers.
As for the climatalogical situation, one only has to look at the devastation wrought in Western NA by the pine bark beetle. Milder winters reduced the beetles' mortality that would normally have been caused by cold winters, which led to a huge increase in numbers of beetles which in turn led to massive areas of coniferous forest being essentially wiped out.
Make a quik buck is correct,Sadley most of the worlds great woods grow in impoverished countrys, and like africas elephant Ivory the source is being desimated,Is all about money.
Most of the great woods take hundreds of yrs to mature into lumber and unlike teak cannot be plantation grown.
When it is gone it will be gone for ever:(
