Maybe it is because I am too new to the razor world, but I have seen other customs going for much less. Is this guy's work that much better? And, I understand people have different tastes and such, but just curious.

Apparently they are worth it, many people have his razors, they are well made, one of a kind shavers.

The maker, Alex, is a nice young fellow, and very proud of his razors. Worth, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.
Absolutely love the form of that razor. Reminds me of a pit viper.
I can imaging hooking my nose on the horn though.
When you get to that price level and way below it workmanship of impeccable quality is a given. What usually makes a razor like that worth the price is strictly the reputation of the maker. That is something you have to decide for yourself.
Alex's razors are beautiful functional art..
Prices are however a function of the Vendor also..
One must sometimes do a comparison of the other prices of other products on a website to get an idea of how things work :hmmm:
CatanUS, Alex Jacques is one of a handful of craftsmen whose custom razors are coveted. His designs are intriguing in their extraordinary designs with angular lines. Of course, custom razors call for much higher prices. If I had the money, I would order one of his razors today. Good stuff.

I have always wanted one of Alex's razors, beautful peices of functional art in my opinion....would I pay that much? Nope. There are a few custom makers that have gone this route with vendors and their prices have gone a little out of hand. Again, this is just my opinion and price point is always in the eyes of the purchaser and what they're willing to pay. Myself, I prefer to indulge the artisans that still do it for the love of creating something beautiful and useful, but allowing the end user the affordability of having such a piece :)
I'd have to ask myself if I wanted a Joe Chandler AND a Robert WIlliams Custom for the same money, or a Mastro Livi ivory Damascus for less ........ you get what I mean ....... now if I really wanted one of Alex's, and I had the disposable income, I'd consider it. OTOH, I really prefer very traditional razors, not the more ' creative' stuff, but that is just me. YMMV.Quote:

He is trying to position himself as the ultra high end in custom razors - whether that's warranted or is an example of a 'verblen good' is still to be seen.
