First time purchase
Hi all.. I've been doing a lot of reading on straight razors and I've decided it's time for me to join the club. I've done some online research and found this set:
Dovo Pearlex Deluxe Straight Razor Set
The company seems to be customer friendly, and they hand hone the razors before they send them out. Is this a good set for the price ? (Im willing to spend around 300).
cheers!

It is a great shop. I can't stand that strop though. I had gotten a similar set from the same shop some time ago. The strop was not to my liking. You may want to ask about a strop upgrade or start with that package and switch it up later. One of the important things is that all his razors are shave ready. As for pricing there are probably cheaper ways to go but it may be harder to source all the parts and pieces for what you save. I hope that makes sense. Also it is a Canadian shop so if you are in Canada it makes complete sense to shop there.

Thanks for the reply! I'll ask about a different strop

I'd get a 3" strop so you can go back and forth rather than have to learn the X pattern.

I think it is important to use X patterns on any strop, but that just me.

Everyone's preference varies. My first strop was a 3" English bridle, and I went to the smaller one you see in that package. I like it much better. For me, the X pattern is not that difficult, and the draw on that leather seemed better. The English bridle was "harder" and I noticed if I laid the razor flat on the strop, I could see a tiny gap in the middle of the blade. So like pixel said, I probably should have been using an X pattern on that one as well.
But I'm probably in the minority. I think you'll find most people like the 3" strops. To be fair, the one in the package is not the highest in construction quality compared to others, but it strops my razors just as well.
