Most comfortable shave ever?!

Ummm, no, not really. That alum block stung pretty well. BUT it's only my 4th and the first time I went WTG and ATG (I just hate leaving stubblies). Got the a tiny speck of blood in the foam on the blade but nothing visible on my face. What's that all about? Must have cut a single capillary. WTG is feeling a lot easier but ATG just under the chin line. Yuck. Razor doesn't want to slide at all. Had to chip away at it. I'm thinking that I'm just taking so long (being careful, you know) that the soap is drying out on my face and causing problems. Tried renewing it, though, and it was still tough going.

In my mind I visualize a slick surface that the blade just slides along. In reality, not so much.

However the bottom line is it's the best in terms of closeness yet. Would qualify as a "Eh, that's okay, I'm in a rush today so I'll cut it short" kind of DE shave. And on my cheeks it's as good as I get with a "good" DE shave. So ... definite progress! Thanks to all for your prior tips and advice!

I have heard over and over how most people have a hard time around the chin and mustache areas. Give it time and a light touch and you will find yourself going through with a smooth stroke before you know it. 4 shaves is a good start to be going against the grain anywhere. Talk to us 10, 20 , and 30 shaves from now. Good luck and don't give up!

Unless you make an offering to the shave God he can be very contrary and turn your foam into blood just for fun.

It's been my experience that the visualisation of "hot knife through butter" or similar is a slight over exaggeration in many cases. It shouldn't be a tug of war by any stretch, but most razors require a bit of momentum let's say to get through tougher areas of beard growth such as the chin and upper lip.

It may be worth considering a "buffing" kind of stroke in these areas - short backward and forward strokes (where the edge doesn't really leave the skin on the backward stroke) can provide just that little bit of movement to help ease the edge through the tougher spots at a controlled angle and rate. It can sometimes be a much safer stroke in these areas than plonking the edge down into thick stubble and then trying to move it through - there can be a tendency for it to "dig in" sometimes, or simply skip.

Do wedges do any better in terms of momentum? I'd think the feel would be different with that much more metal.

Somewhat better with momentum but you will lose some feedback as the blade will be very silent. It's a trade off.
