Is there a way to save this razor?

hello!
I just got a cut-throat razor on ebay...hopefully I didn't pay this too much (10 euro for this one (bartmann solingen 504)+2 gilette safety razors in mint condition)

The cut-throat had a crack on his blade. Here in belgium, its very difficult to find the equipement to fix razorblades (stones, leather,etc..)Its also difficult to find someone who knows how to do this. So I just decided to quick fix the blade with manucure tools and to make it shine asnew in order to sell it to someone else as a "collector" (since nobody here uses these anymore)

I firt plunged it into a solution of vinegar, water and salt (It had stains of rust). I was not convinced by result so i decided to use bleach (bad idea : small black dots appeared on the blade). Finally I used coca-cola (it contains phosphoric acid).

The good thing is that the stains have disappeared.But now the blade has become like old and dark.

I'd like to make it glitter and shine like a diamond! (except by painting on it) what should I try????

Well, first of all if the blade has a crack in it thats one defect that makes the razor unuseable. There is nothing that can be done to save a blade like that. As far as the finish goes you probably oxidized the metal. You could try something like cape cod cloths but you'll probably need a dremmel or lacking that some fine sand paper to clean it up depending on how deep the oxidation went. Try first with some metal polish and elbow grease and then go to heavier artillary

I used to think that it was always possible to sharpen the blade...given it will take considerable time!

but theres no problem for me if its out of use, because as I said, the tools needed for this kind of razors are unavailable in my country, and no one knows how to use them.

When you say "crack," do you mean a chip out of the blade or a crack that runs from the edge into the razor's blade?

A chip, or small piece of missing metal on the edge, is fixable. A crack is a problem because it tends to keep breaking farther into the metal, getting worse as you try to hone it out.

its just a tiny hole on the edge. a bet any specialist can fix this.

the main problem is the shine of the blade : no one will buy one in this poor state!!

Vinegar, water and salt to fix rust...tell me, where in Belgium does metal rust quickest ? De Kempen of de Westhoek ?
Secondly, it is very well possible to obtain sharpening materials in and around Belgium. Check www.wolfster.de, www.toolshop.de, http://www.shaving-and-razor-shop.com/ (shop in Antwerp). And there are a LOT of people who make knives in Belgium. And who have the knowledge and skill to restore knives.
